The sky churned with dark clouds, stirred by a mysterious force into a terrifying vortex. Directly beneath, a petite figure descended from midair, her swelling shadow trailing behind.
As her princess boots lightly touched the ground, [Eternal Night] transformed into a massive, towering shadow.
Curved ram horns, eyes burning with ghostly flames, a misty, ethereal form—it was like a nightmare from myth, bringing endless fear and calamity.
At this moment, [Lament of Eternal Night – Lilina] revealed her true power.
“Lilina’s mad.”
The soft loli voice now sounded like a death knell. As the words fell, the nightmare behind her roared, its giant hand slamming down, sending encroaching players flying.
“What’s that over there?”
The sudden explosion drew the attention of every player in the Forest Ruins still battling Dark Bats.
Or rather, even without the sound, the colossal figure stood out starkly in the darkness of [Eternal Night Sanctuary], its terrifying presence amplified by the inky night.
“So this is a Commander’s true strength? Truly eye-opening.”
Black King Caesar sighed in admiration, then grinned, pointing his Conqueror’s Sword at the massive shadow surrounded by countless players. “It’s probably a death sentence, but are we ready?”
“Just waiting for your word, boss!”
“Been itching to go!”
Hearing the enthusiastic cheers from Stormwind’s elite warriors, Black King Caesar’s grin widened with swagger.
“Then, Ironblood Squad, charge with me!”
“What a reckless guy. No wonder Sister Roseheart can’t stop complaining.”
Doran, from a rival guild, watched Stormwind’s actions with a shake of her head, issuing new orders through the guild channel.
Red Coral, assisting with command, gave a wry smile. “Don’t you think it’s kinda manly? Fighting shoulder-to-shoulder with his crew, trusting them to handle the rest.”
“Complete trust is great, but sometimes it can be the sharpest blade to stab you,” Quiet Emotion, leading Eternal Spire, commented coolly.
“I’m kinda jealous of their camaraderie—pure when it needs to be, clear when it counts,” Dawn Judgment from Ares said with a faint smile. “I don’t think that day will come.”
“Oh, wanna bet?”
“What’s there to fear?”
“Why do you rate him so highly?” Dreamweaver asked curiously, organizing her elite squad to attack the distant BOSS.
“What comes to mind when you think of Stormwind?” Zhenmo didn’t answer directly, tossing out an odd question instead.
“Warlike, tough, bold, honest, occasionally stubborn?” Dreamweaver replied.
“And Black King Caesar?”
Dreamweaver paused, falling silent.
“Notice how Stormwind and Black King Caesar’s styles are practically one and the same?”
Zhenmo smiled faintly. “Or rather, Stormwind is him, and he is Stormwind. He just charges forward, and others naturally follow through. Someone who can wield personal charisma to that degree is never simple.”
From Epic of the Empire’s camp, Xueying, amidst the Mage team, watched the charging figure in the distance, his eyes narrowing inscrutably.
Despite varying opinions on Black King Caesar, the guilds didn’t hesitate to relay orders to their elite squads.
With even the Radiant Monastery’s Knight Captain defeated by the Commander-tier BOSS, if they didn’t ramp up their assault, the NPC team risked being wiped out, and their quests would fail.
The two clerics in the back clearly thought the same.
“Him, Holy Mark.”
Him, skilled in support abilities, didn’t hesitate. As her ethereal prayer rose, a golden seal landed on Biri.
Feeling the surge of holy power, Biri began chanting a long, complex spell without pause, her white robe billowing as if alive, exuding the aura of a grand cleric.
The commotion in the back couldn’t escape my notice.
Snapping my black whip to push back surrounding players, I turned, extending a pale hand and clenching the air.
With my motion, the nightmare behind me bared its bloodthirsty fangs. Its massive, misty arm condensed into a shadowy claw, detaching and hurtling toward the clerics.
But the attack was intercepted mid-flight by two figures.
Defensive Stance, Holy Shelter.
They blocked with their strongest defense, but even so, the ferocious shadow claw forced them back several steps.
Bemira didn’t dare overstay, retreating after holding out briefly, while Daisy seamlessly took her place.
Through their coordination, they barely stopped the shadow claw.
But the shockwave from the clash swept up nearby players, instantly killing squishy classes, a testament to the attack’s terrifying power.
The Lord of Eternal Night’s form excels in raw destructive force and solid defense, with nightmare AoE attacks and some autonomy, letting me focus elsewhere. It’s undeniably fearsome.
But it has downsides. The massive form makes dodging nearly impossible, so most player attacks land.
Even with boosted defense, my HP drops faster than before.
My vampire bloodsucking keeps recovery decent, but no one likes taking free hits.
I’m no exception. Seeing I couldn’t stop the clerics, and with the glow on their staff growing brighter, I used [Eternal Night Dash] without hesitation.
Swoosh.
My petite figure vanished from the players’ sight. Though the massive shadow betrayed my path, three rapid dashes closed the gap to the clerics significantly.
Plus, [Eternal Night Dash]’s damage immunity let me dodge the cleric’s magical burst.
But what I didn’t expect was the sudden rustle of dozens of scrolls being torn open.
“Crap.”
Dozens of glowing lights made my heart sink. As expected, a slew of debuffs appeared above my head.
[Eternal Night Dash] negates damage but not control effects. With what were likely level 20 or 30+ scrolls stacked in numbers, I was rooted in place.
System: Event side quest completed—successfully bought time for Biri.
“We did it!”
Stormwind, Ares, and Epic of the Empire players cheered at the side quest completion notice.
Using so many stored scrolls stung, but the quest points more than made up for it, plus the guild reputation gained. They came out ahead.
But that was secondary. The real prize was Biri, who, after finishing her long, intricate chant, unleashed her prepared attack.
