Yeager Life Handbook.
This book explained in great detail how Yeager cadets should live here, what rules they must follow, and what to be careful of.
Especially useful was the map of Yeager Camp inserted in the middle of the book, which provided a detailed explanation of the structure of each floor, what could and could not be done there.
Of course, there was absolutely no mention of the B4 and B5 floors on the map.
Kim Seojun lay on his bed, slowly and thoroughly reading the book.
The monthly schedule at Yeager Camp was extremely tight.
Every day, everyone had to wake up at 5 o’clock, and there was a mandatory morning training session that had to be completed before the 7 o’clock meal.
After breakfast, there was about an hour of theoretical lectures, and then from 9 a.m., training resumed.
Lunch was from 12 to 2 p.m., and since this included rest time, it was a fairly generous break—because the afternoon training that followed was so grueling.
In the afternoon, training continued all the way until 6 p.m. After a brief meal, night training ran from 7 to 11 p.m.
A brutal schedule of 13 hours of training and lessons.
But for Kim Seojun, this much of a schedule was so light he could simply laugh it off.
‘Compared to the more than ten years I trained for my parents’ revenge, this is child’s play.’
Back then, he even begrudged the time spent eating and sleeping, sometimes practicing evading enemy ambushes in his sleep, or mixing poison into food to build resistance.
In any case, Kim Seojun, who had endured such harsh training for over a decade, found the Yeager cadet training schedule not at all burdensome.
‘Still, I have to finish this training with excellent results to become a Yeager Numbering Agent.’
For that reason, he had no intention of slacking off, not even a little.
Time passed quickly.
By the time Kim Seojun had read through the Yeager Life Handbook twice, it was nearly assembly time.
‘B3-101, huh… Here it is.’
Thanks to the map in the Yeager Life Handbook, he quickly located the spot labeled B3-101.
It turned out to be a sort of audiovisual room.
It was where theoretical lessons would be held going forward, as well as the spot everyone would gather before waking up and before going to bed.
Since Kim Seojun already knew where B3-101 was, there was no need to hurry.
He drank a beverage from the fridge and briefly checked his current stats.
[Kim Seojun]
-Magic Power: 139 / Internal Energy: 137 / Control: 121
-Mysteries: Reverse Overturn World(22%) / Solar Divine Arts(25%) / Telekinetic Barrier(7%) / Asura Extreme Flash(5%) / Mind’s Eye(6%)
His magic power and internal energy had increased ever so slightly.
It was a huge improvement compared to when he first started, but when compared to the mystic-ability users he’d met so far, he still had a long way to go.
Even among the Yeager candidates, the youngest, Im Heeju, already had a magic power of 225, so he needed to work harder.
‘I should devote myself to training the Solar Divine Arts while I’m here.’
With that determination, Kim Seojun left his room.
Peeking into the other cadets’ rooms, he noticed all the name tags painted gray, indicating everyone was out.
‘Am I the last one?’
He still had ten minutes left until the time Instructor Park Moonho had mentioned, so he didn’t rush and continued at a leisurely pace.
The official name of the cadet dormitory was Cadet Residence Hall, with the ID number B3-100.
From here, five passageways stretched out in different directions, each leading to various locations. Taking the A Corridor would lead to the audiovisual room B3-101.
Kim Seojun immediately started down the A Corridor.
Walking for a while through a passage that felt like something out of a massive space station, a series of unidentified doors appeared.
Amusingly, the map in the Yeager Life Handbook showed the purpose and ID of each door, making it easy to match them.
However, in reality, the doors only had numbers like A-1, A-2, without any IDs, so there was no way of knowing what the rooms were for.
‘B3-101 was the seventh door along the A Corridor.’
Kim Seojun soon found the A-7 room.
The indicator on the door was green, meaning someone else was already inside.
It looked like there were other cadets who’d read the Yeager Life Handbook carefully and found their way here as well.
Bzzz
He pressed the button next to the door, and it opened smoothly.
Inside, three people had already taken seats.
But they were unexpected faces.
First, Irina was smiling brightly, waving at Kim Seojun. Next to her, Im Heeju gave a shy nod.
A little further away, Yang Hwi sat with an indifferent expression.
‘They managed to find this place, huh?’
Irina had seemed pretty smart from the first meeting, but Im Heeju was a real surprise.
He’d worried she might struggle to keep up or fall behind, but it seemed that was just needless concern.
Being a Yeager candidate meant Im Heeju was, in her own way, quite extraordinary.
Yang Hwi, among the current cadets, had the second highest magic power, after Shin Taeyang.
He hadn’t even finished Yeager training yet, but already possessed 324 magic power—it was impossible to know how much stronger he’d get later.
Kim Seojun sat down beside Irina, who had welcomed him.
Since it was an audiovisual room, the chairs were long enough for three people to sit side by side, so Kim Seojun, Irina, and Im Heeju ended up sharing one seat.
“I knew you’d find your way here without getting lost.”
At Irina’s words, Kim Seojun gave a wry grin.
“Guess I was just lucky.”
“Luck is a skill too. Especially for a Yeager, it’s even more important.”
“Is that so?”
“By the way, when you get your Gift, what ability do you plan to choose?”
Irina was extremely interested in the Gift.
Whether there was another reason or it was simple curiosity, only time would tell.
“I’ll use them all for a month and then decide. There’s no need to pick right now, is there?”
“Well, that’s true. But I’ve already pretty much made up my mind about what ability I want.”
“Already?”
Irina hadn’t even received her Gift, but seemed to have decided which ability to use.
“Magic Power Support and Flight. I think those two would be the perfect match for my Mystery.”
“Ah… I see.”
Kim Seojun almost asked, ‘So what’s your Mystery?’ but swallowed the question.
Soon enough, they’d all find out about each other’s Mysteries during training anyway, so there was no need to ask now.
“Aren’t you curious? About what my Mystery is.”
“If you tell me, I’d appreciate it.”
“Hey, that’s a lukewarm reaction. What a letdown.”
Irina was much more of a chatterbox than she first appeared.
While they were talking, the door opened and four more people came pouring in.
At the head was Shin Taeyang, followed by Ahn Jiwoon, Min Sora, and Choi Cheolmin.
When they saw Kim Seojun and the others already seated, they seemed a little disappointed.
“Looks like someone beat us here. Anyway, Min Sora, see? I told you. If we’d listened to Cheolmin and gone down the C Corridor, we wouldn’t have made it in time.”
At Ahn Jiwoon’s words, Choi Cheolmin pulled a face.
“Hey, Ahn Jiwoon, when did I say to go to the C Corridor? I just said since Jo Taeseok went down the D Corridor, we should check the C Corridor first.”
“Whatever. You both owe me for not wasting any time thanks to me.”
Ahn Jiwoon, Choi Cheolmin, and Min Sora.
The three of them seemed to have already become friends, chatting comfortably.
Once they’d found their seats, Shin Taeyang glanced around and then plopped down behind Yang Hwi.
Yang Hwi shot him a glare, eyebrows furrowing.
“I don’t like having anyone behind me.”
“Then why don’t you move to the back row yourself?”
“I got here first. Why should I move?”
“There’s no sign saying this is your seat. What nonsense are you talking?”
There was quite the standoff between Yang Hwi and Shin Taeyang.
Both were twenty years old.
When it came to magic power, they were the two strongest among the cadets, so Kim Seojun watched them with interest.
At that moment, the door opened again and Instructor Park Moonho entered with two other instructors.
But the two instructors were dragging two cadets along as if they were prisoners.
They were Park Haesung and Jo Taeseok.
Checking the time, it was already one minute past the two-hour deadline Park Moonho had mentioned.
“At least the rest of you found your way here on time, so that’s a relief. As for these two cadets, they went to the wrong place, and unfortunately, that place happened to be a restricted area—so they had to be subdued and brought here by force.”
Park Moonho stood Park Haesung and Jo Taeseok at the front and scolded them with a stern face.
“I gave you a generous two hours, but you wasted that time, not even knowing why I gave it to you. And then you dared to trespass into a restricted area. The fact that I have to educate cadets like you for a month is truly pathetic.”
Park Haesung bristled at Park Moonho’s blunt words.
“Well, then you should have marked the rooms more clearly! You never told us there were restricted areas, so why blame us?”
Park Haesung seemed to have a naturally twisted personality.
“Then what about all these cadets who found their way here and are waiting properly? Do you think someone gave them special information?”
“That’s…”
Park Haesung was speechless again.
He was always the first to get fired up, but as soon as you confronted him with the facts, he was like a mute who’d swallowed a beehive.
“That’s enough. Take your seats, Park Haesung, Jo Taeseok. You both get a 2-point deduction.”
With red faces, the two cadets found their seats. Park Moonho scanned the room.
“In your rooms, you’ll each find a bookshelf. On that shelf is a book called the ‘Yeager Life Handbook.’ That book contains all the information about this place. So after training today, go to your rooms and familiarize yourselves with it. Now, listen carefully to what I’m about to say.”
At Park Moonho’s signal, the two instructors handed each cadet a small box.
It was about 5 centimeters wide and 20 centimeters long, looking quite luxurious.
“Inside that box is the Gift, the flower of the Yeager, your right and your privilege.”
Park Moonho began his explanation, while one instructor activated a hologram at the front.
It was a video explaining the exact form and function of the Gift.
“There are twelve mysterious abilities embedded in each cadet’s Gift. These Mysteries are as follows.”
Park Moonho pointed to one side of the hologram video.
There, twenty items were listed, and just by the names, it was clear what most of them did.
Magic Power Cover / Barrier / Magic Power Support / Body Enhancement / Speed Boost / Power Increase / Flight / Cloaking / Magic Power Measurement / Charm / Immunity Enhancement / MPSP
“During the month of training, you’ll use these twelve Mysteries one by one to discover which ability best suits you. At the end of training, you’ll choose three of these to be your companions. However, one of the three must be this: Magic Power Cover. Is that understood?”
Park Moonho pointed at the word ‘Magic Power Cover’ as he looked around at the cadets.
Everyone seemed very excited at the idea that the Gift in front of them contained these powers.
“Any questions?”
At that, Irina shot her hand up.
“Cadet Irina. What are you curious about?”
“There are twelve Mystery abilities, so why do we only get to pick three in the end? Why not four or five?”
Irina asked the same thing she’d wondered about during her conversation with a young instructor on the way here.
“That’s simply the current limitation of the Gift. With current technology, even embedding three Mystery abilities in a Gift is already a miracle of high technology. Perhaps in ten or twenty years, you’ll be able to pack as many as you want into one.”
“It’s amazing, but also a little disappointing.”
Irina looked genuinely disappointed.
So did the other cadets.
Normally, a Hunter could only have one Mystery, so being able to possess not just your own, but others as well, was an incredible privilege.
But no matter how great the Gift was, wanting more than three Mysteries was greedy and near impossible.
At least, for now.
“Any other questions?”
As Park Moonho looked around again, this time Im Heeju raised her hand.
“Yes, Cadet Im Heeju, what’s your question?”
“Um… The last one on the list. What’s MPSP?”
“Hm. Cadet Im Heeju, you found the Yeager Life Handbook and figured out where to go, but you didn’t check the information about the Gift, did you?”
“Huh? No, that’s not…”
Just as Park Moonho said, the Yeager Life Handbook included a detailed explanation about the Gift.
Not knowing what MPSP was meant she hadn’t read that part closely.
As Im Heeju’s face turned red, Park Moonho gave a brief chuckle and continued.
“MPSP stands for Magical Power Shutdown Pulse. In simple terms, you could call it a Magic Power Sealing Wave. This Mystery emits a special pulse within a 10-meter radius, sealing off magic power for five minutes. But it has a fatal flaw.”
A Mystery that could seal off everyone’s magic power within 10 meters for five minutes.
By itself, it was an incredible ability.
But there was a serious downside.
“It doesn’t affect monsters, and the power that restricts magic also applies to the user.”
You could seal others’ magic, but you couldn’t use your own either. In a way, it could become a self-defeating ability.
But for Kim Seojun, this Mystery was extremely attractive.
Because Kim Seojun didn’t just have magic power.
He had internal energy.
As long as he had internal energy, even if his magic was sealed, he could still use powerful, mystery-like abilities.
But he hadn’t tried it yet, so he couldn’t be sure.
‘I’ll have to test it. See whether the MPSP pulse only seals magic, or if it can block internal energy as well.’
If it was the former, this Gift would be the best present for Kim Seojun.
