Even after the two of them walked into the classroom, Li Yang did not continue questioning her any further.
An Ling let out a breath of relief and ran back to her own seat.
Li Yang looked at her, shook his head a little, and also sat back in his own seat.
“Good morning, An Ling.”
Zhou Meng had just been digging through her backpack.
She only raised her head to greet her when she heard the sound of An Ling setting down her bag.
“Morning, Class President.”
An Ling only fully relaxed once her butt touched the seat.
She wasn’t unwilling to tell Li Yang the truth. She was afraid.
Afraid that after Li Yang learned the real situation and learned her secret, the two of them would no longer be able to maintain their current relationship.
Then she would be alone again and would no longer be able to banter with Li Yang every day.
She still fantasized about turning back.
After turning back, she wouldn’t have to hide things the way she did now and could freely maintain this kind of close relationship with Li Yang.
“By the way, An Ling, the sports meet starts tomorrow. How are the preparations for the event you’re doing with Li Yang?”
“Huh? What?”
An Ling had just been spacing out and hadn’t clearly heard what Zhou Meng said.
“I asked if you and Li Yang are ready for the competition. Why do you still look so spacey? Is everything alright?”
“Oh.”
An Ling thought back on the training she and Li Yang had done.
“It should be fine, but I don’t know if we can place.”
“Whether you place or not isn’t important. Just you being able to go on stage is already a huge help to me.”
Zhou Meng pressed her palms together toward An Ling in thanks.
There was nothing they could do.
Their class already had the fewest people, and a few classmates flat-out refused to participate in the events.
“It’s fine. I’m part of the class now too.”
“An Ling, you’re such a good kid~ Hearing you say that moves me so much, wuwuwu~”
Zhou Meng even wanted to hug An Ling, but then suddenly remembered that An Ling wasn’t a girl, so she held back.
There was no helping it.
An Ling looked too much like a girl and was so cute that when Zhou Meng talked with her there was none of the usual barrier between the opposite sexes.
“Hehe…”
An Ling smiled a little shyly at being praised.
The class bell rang, and Zhou Meng stopped chatting with An Ling.
The Class President could relax occasionally, but most of the time she still had to set a good example for the class.
Today the homeroom teacher didn’t come for morning self-study, so the atmosphere in the classroom was much more relaxed.
Li Yang didn’t take the chance to sleep, but he also didn’t turn around to chat with An Ling.
An Ling stared at the back of his head, feeling inexplicably anxious.
Under normal circumstances, if Li Yang wasn’t sleeping during morning self-study, he would absolutely turn around to chat with her.
What was he doing right now?
Was he reading? Why wasn’t he looking for her to talk?
Could it be that her answer to his question this morning hadn’t satisfied him and he was angry?
An Ling wanted to take the initiative to chat with him, but she was also afraid that Li Yang was studying right now and she would disturb him.
An Ling stared at the back of Li Yang’s head for the entire morning self-study period.
During the break Li Yang also didn’t make any extra movements. He chatted a few sentences with Wang Hao beside him, but the noise during the break was too loud and An Ling couldn’t hear clearly.
Even after the first class started and the teacher had already walked into the classroom, An Ling was still staring at him.
“An Ling? An Ling!”
Zhou Meng’s voice pulled her back from spacing out.
“Huh?”
An Ling came back to herself and realized class had already started.
The surrounding classmates were all opening their books, getting ready for class.
An Ling also hurriedly took out her book and flipped to the place they would cover today.
“You’ve been staring at the back of Li Yang’s head for forty minutes.”
Zhou Meng lowered her voice, her eyes sparkling with gossip.
“Did a flower grow on the back of his head?”
“I wasn’t… I wasn’t staring at him.”
An Ling buried her head, her ears unconsciously pressing back a little.
“I was just… thinking about something.”
“What kind of thing requires staring at the back of someone’s head to think about?”
“I…”
An Ling was choked, her face slightly red. “I just happened to look over. Don’t overthink it.”
An Ling decided to stop paying attention to this gossipy Class President.
She lowered her head to look at the textbook and pretended she was about to start listening carefully.
But her mind was completely not on the textbook.
She raised her head again and secretly looked toward Li Yang.
He was indeed keeping the promise from this morning and not sleeping.
He had taken out his book and was preparing to listen to class.
An Ling’s ears drooped, and her tail also coiled from under the desk to the front of her body and into her arms.
What on earth should she do?
An Ling really wanted to bury her face in her tail, but they were in the classroom and class was in session, so she held back.
She began recalling the conversation with Li Yang this morning.
Li Yang was definitely unsatisfied with her answer and felt that she didn’t trust him.
But it wasn’t that she didn’t trust him. It was just…
Just that something like this had happened and she didn’t know how to bring it up.
If only she hadn’t run away this morning. He was definitely angry.
An Ling regretted it so much that her tail curled up.
“An Ling.” Zhou Meng leaned over again. “What’s wrong with you? Is the illness still not better?”
“No.” An Ling shook her head. “I’m fine. Thanks for caring.”
“Then do you want to rest your head for a bit? This is history class. The history teacher isn’t strict.”
“No need. I’m fine.”
An Ling straightened up, let her tail out of her arms, and took a deep breath.
Forget it. After class I’ll take the initiative to talk to him.
Just chat about tomorrow’s sports meet. Yes, like that. Natural, and it won’t seem too deliberate.
The history teacher put up the PowerPoint and began class.
An Ling forced herself to put her attention on the blackboard. Li Yang was studying seriously, and she didn’t want to be left behind by him either.
Studying was one of the few places she could still help Li Yang.
She finally managed to endure until the end of class. An Ling took a deep breath and prepared to call out to Li Yang.
“Li Yang, going out to the bathroom?” Wang Hao spoke first.
“Sure.” Li Yang stood up and followed Wang Hao out.
The words that had reached An Ling’s lips were swallowed back down again. Her ears completely drooped.
