Shiya’s body stiffened, and her voice began to tremble slightly.
“Little Ilya, what’s wrong?”
The girl’s cheeks flushed slightly.
Ilya slowly lowered her head, their breaths intertwining as she drew closer bit by bit.
“Let her go. She… is Shiya’s mother. I won’t allow you to act recklessly.”
The woman was clearly taken aback and asked back:
“Shiya-sister’s mother?”
But soon, she understood.
Looking at the young miss who had shrunk, Shiya had previously secretly mentioned to her about the young miss’s amnesia.
“So that’s how it is~”
The woman’s tone was calm, but a hint of a smile curled at the corner of her lips.
Under the girl’s nervous gaze, she didn’t continue but instead changed the subject.
“Sister Shiya, you really are…”
“Young Miss, I’m simply responding to Shiya-mother’s confusion.”
“Wait, what have you been calling her all along? Sister Shiya?”
Before the little phoenix, who sensed something amiss, could raise her question, Ilya supported Shiya’s waist with one hand and pressed a magic submachine gun into her hand.
“Try it out first, Shiya-mother.”
Her brows and eyes carried a smile, and she switched her way of address with remarkable ease.
The girl pursed her lips, feeling her face burning hot, but she still raised the firearm and pulled the trigger.
Unsurprisingly, a fierce tongue of flame swept from the steel plate in front of her all the way up to the ceiling.
Little Leonora’s mouth fell open as she plopped down onto the floor, scrambling and crawling under the table to avoid having falling bullet fragments hit her head.
The massive recoil jarred Shiya’s wrist with pain.
Only when the barrage ceased and the magic firearm let out a series of crisp clack clack sounds did Ilya, quick of eye and hand, firmly support Shiya’s hand to keep her from being strained by the powerful recoil.
Only then did Little Leonora crawl out from under the table, pale-faced, looking at Shiya with lingering fear.
Ilya’s calm doe eyes were gentle and soft as they rested on Little Leonora.
“Young Miss, do you still need to engage enemies up close while having Shiya-mother provide fire support from behind?”
Little Leonora’s spine ran cold, and she shook her head desperately in refusal.
“Hey, I just wanted to do my part…”
Shiya mumbled in a very small voice, but she also knew her own limits.
The girl’s mood sank, and she wanted to push away the Ilya who was embracing her, but no matter how hard she pressed against the woman’s shoulders, she couldn’t manage it.
Ilya’s gaze toward her grew deeper, carrying a sticky, heart-racing intensity.
“So you see, Young Miss, you might still need to protect Shiya-mother when the time comes.”
“Just like in a family: the husband manages the big picture, and the wife quietly gives from behind.”
Hearing this, Little Leonora’s cheeks burned and her head spun.
She lowered her head, hands behind her back, unconsciously kicking the table leg with her toe.
“The things you say are so strange. How embarrassing.”
Taking that opportunity, Ilya’s gaze shifted, her lips closing in to take Shiya’s earlobe into her mouth, gently biting it with her teeth before planting a kiss.
After doing all this, the restlessness and heat that had risen in her heart ever since she first laid eyes on Sister Shiya after the Flower God’s curse finally subsided considerably.
Shiya let out a whimper and went limp in Ilya’s arms.
Her pale golden autumn-water eyes flushed slightly red, welling up with a hazy layer of mist.
The woman blinked at the glaring Shiya, putting on a very innocent expression.
Really… she was more and more not taking her big sister seriously at all.
The girl caught her breath and stamped her foot hard on Ilya’s instep.
Even after the young miss raised her head again and deliberately put on a cold face, Shiya didn’t dare question Little Ilya on the spot about what exactly she was trying to do.
Ilya finally let go of the girl and took out an object resembling a stun gun from a storage cabinet nearby.
“Sister Shiya, take this for self-defense first. It’s stored with a large amount of electric magic.”
Watching the two young ladies leave together, Ilya’s previously calm eyes slowly darkened.
She returned to the rack where weapons were displayed earlier and gently curled her finger.
That little purple flower poked its head out again, and its green leaves curled and waved, as if signaling that the orders the woman had given had all been carried out.
Then, countless bright little flowers moved the weapon rack aside, revealing a passage that had already been dug out beneath it.
This could go straight to McCass’s office.
At the very moment that sunglasses-wearing supervisor grew suspicious of Ilya, the woman had also developed murderous intent toward him.
In the past, when Supervisor McCass had continuously suppressed Ilya due to factional struggles because of her position as an investigator through her status as Aunt Martha’s personal disciple, the woman could still tolerate it.
But this time, he had actually set his sights directly on Sister Shiya.
As the flower-sea vines transported Ilya through the dug tunnel to McCass’s office, she quickly identified her bearings and planned to hide and lie in wait first, waiting until the sunglasses-wearing supervisor returned to his office and let his guard down before striking with a fatal blow.
With light, graceful steps, Ilya walked to the iron storage cabinet and reached out to open the door.
Unfortunately, a guest had already arrived here.
A middle-aged man’s corpse wearing a form-fitting black short-sleeve shirt, with solid muscles and sunglasses, stood silently inside the cabinet.
Large patches of black sludge mixed with blood covered his body.
As a drop of mudwater dripped onto the floor, Ilya abruptly closed the door and wiped away that speck of filth with the tip of her shoe.
Even without Shiya ever mentioning the hospital sludge-man attack to her, Ilya had already figured everything out.
Colin Flack.
This was a fairy tale Aunt Martha had once told her and the children.
An immortal who had once been enlightened by a prophet, able to take the form of anyone, undying and unending, who ultimately chose to flee from Immortal Longevity Isle.
Clearly, Aunt Martha, whose identity before coming to Flower God Village was anything but simple, had woven the bizarre cruelty of reality into a children’s story.
The cold, towering iron exhaust pipes shot straight toward the concrete ceiling of the vast sewer.
Under the dim yellow light, the enormous iron sedimentation tank exuded the stench of damp mud.
Back on the third underground level, at the flesh sedimentation pool, Shiya and Little Leonora directly found a room to hide in.
According to Ilya, they didn’t need to listen to McCass’s orders and throw their lives away at all.
If they stalled for a while longer, the rest of the performance enforcement team would arrive to jointly execute the person in charge of the sedimentation pool.
This was originally the result the higher-ups of the Longevity Factory had agreed upon.
Through the gap in the curtains, Shiya could clearly see the towering iron pillar sedimentation tanks outside.
Her gaze slowly moved downward.
Busy workers were using small carts to unload objects beside the conveyor belt.
They were coffins.
They kept prying off the iron nails on the coffins, carrying decayed and rotten corpses onto the assembly line, sending them all into the sedimentation tanks.
The most horrifying part was that those corpses with dissolved flesh and exposed bones were actually still struggling slightly, putting up futile resistance.
Shiya swallowed a mouthful of saliva, goosebumps rising all over from the bizarre scene.
Sensing something, she looked down at the young miss, who was obviously curious but still turned her head away with puffed cheeks.
“Does the young miss want to see too? It might be a little scary.”
“I don’t want to at all. And don’t you go bothering me.”
The girl spoke rapidly, her response to the maiden especially awkward.
The next moment, her small body suddenly felt light, and she was lifted into the maiden’s arms, held close to her chest.
The faint fragrance of orchids lingered at the tip of her nose.
Her slender frame was pressed against a softness, and vaguely she could feel the other’s thumping heartbeat.
“What are you doing? Who told you to meddle?”
She didn’t dare look at the gentle smile in Shiya-mother’s brows and eyes.
After muttering a small remark, she pretended to look casually out through the gap in the curtain.
Without realizing it, the girl’s hands quietly wrapped around the maiden’s neck.
Just as the young miss was immersed in the brief glimpse of the maiden’s quiet, considerate, nurturing temperament like a young wife, the room door was suddenly thrown open.
Their very familiar old acquaintance—the gray-clad overseer—walked in fanning himself and cursing.
“Damn it, if it weren’t for those two bastards pulling tricks, how would I have been transferred to this unstable, unsafe post?”
“If I catch them, I’ll definitely…”
The man’s words came to an abrupt halt halfway.
Because the two nemeses he was dying to settle accounts with were at this very moment locking onto him with extremely unfriendly stares.
The overseer was so frightened he turned around to flee out the door.
“There’s an intruder—”
Those words were practically stuck in his throat.
