The sound of soft crying echoed through the classroom. Qin Luo sat in the last row. Two rows ahead of him sat a girl with shoulder-length hair, and a baby was sprawled across her stomach. The baby’s body was extremely faint and translucent, and it was letting out thin, whimpering cries.
“Sister, is that a ghost?”
Seeing a ghost for the first time in his life made Qin Luo’s heart pound — half with excitement and half with a sliver of fear.
Bai Jingyu didn’t even look up, saying flatly, “Just a little ghost. It hasn’t fully formed yet. Most likely, this woman had an abortion, and the child’s soul is still attached to the mother. It’s nothing serious; it will dissipate before long.”
Hearing his sister say that, Qin Luo observed the ghost baby more closely. Sure enough, its body was slowly fading.
He patted Yang Cong, who was snoring loudly beside him.
Startled by the sudden pat, Yang Cong jerked awake. “What did the teacher ask?”
“He didn’t call on you. I just wanted to ask, who is that girl?” Qin Luo pointed to the girl sitting two rows ahead.
Yang Cong followed his finger and whispered, “Her? She’s from the class next door. I think her name is Zhang… something Yu. She’s pretty, but her private life is a mess. She’s only a freshman, yet she’s already gone through two boyfriends and has been flirtatious with several seniors in her club.”
“Whoa, a professional gold digger?” Qin Luo was somewhat surprised.
Yang Cong nodded, his eyes full of gossip. “Haven’t you noticed she uses the latest phone? Even her bags are five-figure luxuries. I heard she got pregnant with a rich guy’s kid a while back. He gave her money to get an abortion, and she took a one-month leave.”
Qin Luo rarely came to school, so he wasn’t well-informed about these rumors.
That explained why a ghost baby was clinging to her.
“This kid has terrible luck, being aborted before it was even born,” Qin Luo whispered. “Sister, this ghost won’t hurt anyone, will it?”
Bai Jingyu glanced up briefly and said calmly, “As long as it doesn’t develop a blood-red malevolent aura, it’s fine. However, if it continues to breed resentment, it could mutate.”
Qin Luo nodded and continued to stare at the ghost baby.
However, when his eyes met the ghost baby’s head-on, his entire body froze.
That could not even be called a face — there were no features, only squirming flesh. It was crimson all over, looking as if it were still dripping with blood.
In the next instant, a feeling of suffocation suddenly struck him, as if an invisible hand were squeezing his throat.
Although the ghost baby had no eyes, he felt clearly that it was ‘looking’ at him.
*Wooooo — !*
Qin Luo’s face turned pale, and he struggled to breathe, nearly fainting.
Just then, a soft hum sounded in his ear like a clap of thunder, and the feeling of suffocation instantly vanished.
Qin Luo gasped for air, his heart still racing. “Sister… it was blood red!”
Bai Jingyu frowned slightly. “That is indeed unusual. Ordinarily, a little ghost of this level shouldn’t have such deep resentment.”
Qin Luo’s face turned even paler. “Then… what should we do?”
Bai Jingyu suddenly curled her lips into a meaningful smile. “Little Puppy, I told you earlier not to let a ghost catch your eye. Now — it’s targeted you.”
Qin Luo instantly panicked. “My dear big sister! I’m your only brother! Help me!”
Bai Jingyu narrowed her eyes and smiled, tapping her finger against her cheek and gesturing with her lips.
‘No way!’
Qin Luo’s expression soured. He knew exactly what she meant — but they were in a classroom! Right under the teacher’s nose!
“What, you can’t even manage this small sacrifice?” Bai Jingyu sighed softly, her face full of playfulness.
Qin Luo grit his teeth. Steeling his resolve, he suddenly leaned in and kissed her on the cheek.
*Mwah —*
It was a soft, jelly-like sensation, accompanied by a faint fragrance.
A flicker of shyness that was hard to detect flashed across Bai Jingyu’s cold and elegant face.
In the next moment, Qin Luo suddenly realized — the eyes of the entire class were fixed on them!
‘Oh no, they all saw?!’
Yang Cong clutched his chest, looking heartbroken. “Qin Luo, it’s bad enough that you brought your girlfriend to class, but showing off your affection in public? Why must a person make life so hard for a fellow single guy?”
The gazes of the surrounding boys were even more complex — envy, jealousy, and even a desire to take his place.
The old professor on the podium stopped lecturing and pushed up his glasses, his gaze sharp. “I’ve said before, if you don’t want to listen, you can sleep or play on your phones, but do not disturb others. You, the student in the last row, what is your student ID number?”
Qin Luo’s heart sank — he was probably going to fail this course.
***
After class, the two of them walked through the campus.
Bai Jingyu held Qin Luo’s arm, looking every bit the perfect girlfriend.
She was in an excellent mood today — not only had she “officially announced” her status, but she had also conveniently intimidated the girls who had designs on Qin Luo.
She had noticed long ago that a few girls had a good impression of her little puppy.
So, she had used a small trick — at the moment Qin Luo kissed her, she made everyone nearby notice.
When they were children, the little puppy had said it himself — everything he owned belonged to his sister, including himself.
She had always remembered those words.
Therefore, she wanted to leave her mark on her own territory.
Those who had designs on her brother would either be moved away by her schemes or simply disappear from this city.
Her brother —
Only she and Little Aunt were allowed to have him.
