“I see.”
Gu Chen nodded.
She hadn’t expected that he had actually done something so grand.
However… the school was long overdue for a thorough investigation.
Looking at the high schoolers nowadays, none of them actually looked like students.
They could produce all sorts of eccentric talents, but they couldn’t produce a single elite student for a top university.
It was truly pathetic.
“But, kicking us out so suddenly… if the people from the Education Bureau come over and don’t see any students, isn’t that just a blatant cover-up?”
Gu Chen thought for a moment and roughly understood what was happening.
Obviously, the school couldn’t silence every student.
The crudest method was to force a holiday.
Without any students around, the school leadership could say whatever they wanted about the situation.
It seemed this so-called inspection was just for show again; otherwise, they wouldn’t be so blatant.
The holiday was just a precaution.
If a student reported them in person, it would be a different story.
As the saying goes, some things don’t even weigh four ounces until they are put on a scale; once they are, even 1,000 pounds won’t be enough to balance them out…
“They’ve already thought it through. The official story is that Li Fugui injured people with a knife at school two days ago, and many students were terrified. To care for everyone’s emotional well-being, we were given a holiday to rest at home.”
Li Yanqiu sighed and explained slowly.
“Ugh, they really know how to make excuses.”
Gu Chen couldn’t help but be impressed.
This Li Fugui was quite miserable.
He had already been expelled, yet he was still being used as a scapegoat.
He really was pitiful.
“Alright, you should head back quickly too,” Li Yanqiu said as she walked forward and rubbed Gu Chen’s head, using a tone meant for coaxing a child.
‘Damn! Is the Homeroom Teacher treating me like a pet by using some kind of head-patting skill?!’
For some reason, she actually seemed to enjoy the feeling…
For the sake of her pride, she still brushed Li Yanqiu’s hand away and said irritably, “I get it, Teacher Li. Also, don’t just put your hand on someone’s head whenever you feel like it. Have you forgotten that slap on the butt from last time?”
Li Yanqiu’s face instantly turned red at her words.
She had no choice but to stop, turning around and waving goodbye.
Since that was the case, there was nothing Gu Chen could do to change it.
Whatever.
She would just treat it as a break for the week.
It would also give her time to exercise, as she needed to hurry and restore her physical fitness.
Otherwise, her position as the School Bully would be at stake.
After leaving the school, she went to the parking lot.
The electric scooter was practically a gift from Li Yanqiu, and it would certainly make traveling easier in the future.
There was one at home, but her dad usually used it, so she mostly took the bus or the subway before.
Ten minutes later, Gu Chen parked the scooter downstairs and plugged it in to charge.
She hummed a little tune as she walked toward her home, planning to slack off today and play some *Naraka: Bladepoint* before starting her training tomorrow.
“Huh? Where are my keys?”
Reaching the door, Gu Chen felt her pockets.
They were empty. She continued to search her other pockets, but she still couldn’t find them.
Only then did she remember that before the first class started, the keys had accidentally fallen out of her pocket, so she had just tucked them into her desk.
With the school suddenly announcing a holiday, she had completely forgotten about them!
“At least I have a spare.”
Gu Chen wasn’t too upset; after all, she had an emergency plan.
A key was hidden inside the bottom insole of the shoe rack by the door.
It was hidden very discreetly so that if anyone forgot their keys, they could use that one.
But this time, the result plunged her into panic because she couldn’t find the spare key either!
“No way…”
Had their home been burglarized?
The school definitely wouldn’t let anyone in now, so she couldn’t get her keys, and the spare was gone.
Her only option was to find her dad.
She didn’t know if he was home, so she had to call him first.
“Hello, Xiao Chen. What’s wrong?”
“Stupid Dad, our spare key is gone! We might have been robbed!”
Gu Chen shouted.
“What?”
The other end fell silent for a moment.
Then he replied, “Oh, we weren’t robbed. Don’t worry. I forgot my keys last night, so I used that one to open the door. I had a bit to drink and was a little dazed, so I just put it in my pocket. I just found it.”
“You!!”
Although she was glad they hadn’t been robbed, Gu Chen still couldn’t get into the house.
She was so angry her nose almost went crooked.
She had an urge to set all of his inflatable dolls on fire…
“Don’t be in such a rush. I’m out at Uncle Guo’s company. Why don’t you come over and pick it up? Just one more trip?”
Her dad coaxed her with a gentle tone.
“Hmph. Don’t let there be a next time.”
There was no other way.
She could only go get the keys.
Having to make another trip was such a hassle.
Fortunately, the scooter had plenty of power, so another round trip wouldn’t be a problem.
Uncle Guo’s company was in the city center of Chengnan, inside the famous Nine Dragons Commercial Building.
It was said he rented an entire floor.
He had dozens of beautiful live stream hosts signed under him, specializing in traffic promotion and the like.
Besides a cut of the gifts, their biggest source of income was live stream sales.
Her dad was considered one of their clients.
After following the navigation for over thirty minutes, Gu Chen finally reached her destination.
She found the entrance, entered the elevator, and pressed the button for the eighth floor.
*Ding-dong!*
When she stepped out, the hallway was only dimly lit, making it look quite creepy. Fortunately, it was broad daylight.
“Interview room?”
She searched the hallway for a long time before finally finding the room used for receiving applicants.
Sure enough, she saw her dad inside.
The room was large and felt a bit empty.
A chair was placed in front of a wall, and opposite it was a floor-to-ceiling window with another row of seats.
Based on the layout, it looked very much like a typical interview setting seen on TV.
In front of that were rows of clothing racks filled with various styles of clothes, and there was a changing room nearby.
“Oh, Xiao Chen is here.”
Her dad was fiddling with the clothes.
When he heard the sound, he turned around to greet her.
“What kind of dump is this? The hallway lighting makes it look like a horror movie set,” Gu Chen grumbled as she walked over.
“It’s to save electricity. Uncle Guo’s streamers don’t start work until tonight. Hardly anyone comes here during the day; otherwise, why would he be willing to let me use this place?”
“Fine. Give me the keys.”
Gu Chen didn’t care about any of that and reached out her hand.
“Um… Xiao Chen, the school just called to notify me. The students have a one-week holiday. You don’t have anything to do today anyway. How about… helping me with the interviews?”
Her dad said, rubbing his hands together in a negotiating tone.
“That’s your job. What does it have to do with me?”
Gu Chen was definitely unwilling.
Did he want her to work for free?
What a joke.
Her allowance was barely enough for a Pinhuofan meal; even a beast of burden wasn’t treated this miserably!
“Aiyaya, I’m just nervous. Just think of it as helping your old man out. I’ll treat you to lunch. How about seafood hotpot?”
Her dad was really going all out to get Gu Chen to stay.
“No!”
“You child… the ones coming for interviews later are all beauties, and there are all sorts of costume changes. Are you sure you don’t want to watch?”
“Oh?”
Hearing this, Gu Chen felt a bit intrigued.
“I’m really not lying to you. I sent out the recruitment notice yesterday, and many people submitted their information. I have their ages, heights, and measurements.”
Seeing Gu Chen’s skepticism, he simply handed over his phone to prove it.
“Wow…”
As she scanned the applicant data, she found that many were indeed just as her dad had described—perfect women in terms of height and measurements.
As her gaze swept down, a name suddenly caught her eye.
“Wang Meng!?”
