“Then I’ll be going now. I can give you a ride since it’s on the way.”
Lorevil remembered the carriage parked outside, and her heart suddenly pounded.
From yesterday afternoon to this morning, quite a bit of time had passed. She hadn’t just forgotten to message her wife—she’d also left the coachman waiting outside.
A few seconds later, Lorevil found the communication blood crystal under the bed.
It was covered in messages from her wife, Noxia.
“Lorevil, are you coming back tonight?” “Lorevil, did something happen?” “Lorevil, please reply to me, okay?” There were about ten such inquiring messages.
Then, late at nine-thirty, it was clear that her wife Noxia had completely panicked.
“Lorevil… where are you?!”
After that came a series of call logs—Noxia had called seventeen times, all unanswered.
Before, whether she returned from Holy Blood Academy at five-thirty or came back late due to something, Lorevil would always leave a message about what to eat for dinner or that she was almost home.
It had become a habit these past days. But not today.
Lorevil hadn’t sent a single message.
Her wife probably thought Lorevil had gotten into some accident outside.
Without exaggeration, Lorevil imagined that someone like her wife—gentle on the surface but extreme in character—might even think Lorevil had been assassinated by an enemy.
And while her wife was worrying herself sick, Lorevil and Mahina were sharing a bed, basking in warmth.
A wave of intense guilt surged up, almost drowning Lorevil.
Sensing her grim expression, Mahina asked with concern, “Lorevil, what’s wrong?”
“Nothing.”
Lorevil kept scrolling down. At the very end, there were only three simple words:
“I’ll wait for you.”
Yet Lorevil inexplicably felt a chill.
Did her wife… already know something?
Boom!
Before Lorevil could piece anything together, a familiar kitchen knife instantly split the door in two. Splintered wood chips flew everywhere.
Thump… thump…
In Lorevil’s line of sight appeared a Noxia wreathed in black aura. The oppressive pressure was so low that Lorevil could barely breathe.
Though there was no Blackening HP bar.
Her wife’s usually gentle and lovely features were now a blur of icy coldness shrouded in black mist.
In the shadow of the hallway, her silver-white hair spread out, enveloping her body, while her entire being seemed coated in a layer of unthawing frost.
She was definitely Blackened.
Lorevil spoke weakly, “Noxia, let me explain…”
But any explanation now was futile.
Mahina, wearing a loose bathrobe and clearly not fully dressed, the kiss marks still visible on her collarbone, the rumpled bedding on the bed, the basin on the floor soaking a girl’s clothes…
Even an idiot could tell that Lorevil had been gone all night and had been in bed with this very girl.
In other words, Noxia, gripping the kitchen knife, had witnessed the scene of Lorevil’s infidelity firsthand!
She completely lost her mind!
“Rraaahhh…!”
Before the cold glint of the blade reached her, pain shot through Lorevil’s entire body. She gasped sharply.
There was no chance to block, no room to dodge with Blood Shadow Step.
Shlick!
The sharp kitchen knife broke through her defenses.
The entire blade of Noxia’s knife sank into Lorevil’s heart, leaving only the handle exposed outside.
“Cough… cough…”
A stream of warm blood gushed from Lorevil’s tightly shut mouth, dripping onto the floor of Mahina’s room, splashing into beautiful blood blossoms that quickly pooled into a small patch of crimson.
Lorevil’s consciousness gradually faded. She opened her mouth but no sound came out.
It felt like a wad of cotton was stuck in her throat, leaving only hoarse gasps.
“Lorevil… you didn’t reply to my messages. You said that no matter where you go from now on, you’d tell me in advance…”
Finally, Noxia spoke.
There was no accusation in her tone. Her wine-red eyes held a hollow, deathlike emptiness.
Lorevil’s gaze fell on her wife’s expressionless face. She remembered the promise she’d made when they first met, to comfort Noxia.
“No matter where I go from now on, I’ll tell you in advance. I won’t let you worry alone again.”
That was how Lorevil had soothed her crying wife, Noxia.
If only Lorevil had spared even a little time to reply to Noxia’s message, Noxia wouldn’t have been so worried, and she wouldn’t have discovered anything.
A woman’s intuition is truly terrifying, especially when she’s in love.
For example, while video-calling with your girlfriend, if you’re also gaming with friends, the slightest hint of distraction won’t escape her eyes.
Lorevil’s vision went black. With searing pain and regret, she completely lost consciousness.
Lorevil died again.
…
When she opened her eyes again, Lorevil found herself in a crimson world.
The Blood Lake?
She’d been stabbed through the heart by her wife. Why hadn’t she reverted to some node before her death like before?
She looked up and saw the Red-Dressed Girl from when she’d advanced to Tier 3 last time.
The girl was still wearing that vivid red dress. Her fair calves twitched slightly, looking very cute.
Her delicate bare feet rippled in the blood-red lake.
It immediately caught Lorevil’s eye.
Though the Red-Dressed Girl was breathtakingly beautiful, Lorevil had learned from last time. She didn’t look at the girl’s exquisite face; instead, she lowered her head to study the swaying calves and feet beneath the skirt.
Should she speak?
Lorevil was torn.
If she couldn’t return to the real world, she would likely be trapped in this bloody world forever. Without communication, she’d get no useful information at all.
But if she spoke, based on last time’s experience, some unknown force would clearly take away her vocal cords.
Even if the Red-Dressed Girl had something important to tell her, it would be erased once Lorevil learned it and the girl left.
This was simply unsolvable.
The Red-Dressed Girl seemed to notice Lorevil’s dilemma. She raised a slender finger, and a crimson ribbon materialized out of thin air.
The ribbon covered her eyes—those dangerous, ruby-like eyes—making her even more mysterious.
Was the blindfold to keep Lorevil from getting hurt by looking into her eyes?
A thought inexplicably popped into Lorevil’s mind: ‘Judging by this, the Red-Dressed Girl must be a good person.’
The Red-Dressed Girl, who had just been handed a “good person” card without her knowledge, tilted her head. The tip of her nose twitched slightly. The familiar bloodline aura left her puzzled.
Why had this vampire appeared here again?
The next second, the Red-Dressed Girl lightly tapped the lake surface with her toes and appeared before Lorevil.
Shlick!
Before Lorevil could react, the sharp, thorn-covered red lips landed on Lorevil’s skin.
She’s going to suck blood again…
Lorevil vaguely guessed that this time, the Red-Dressed Girl’s bloodsucking was different from last time.
Its purpose was probably to identify the vampire being drained.
Last time Lorevil had arrived, it had clearly caught the Red-Dressed Girl off guard.
Even as the origin of the Blood Lake, she hadn’t expected a vampire to get so close to her.
Fangs pulled out from Lorevil’s neck. A single drop of blood fell, staining the corner of the Red-Dressed Girl’s mouth.
The Red-Dressed Girl drew in the air with her slender fingers, “What’s your name?”
After writing, she seemed to realize that Lorevil couldn’t speak, and that if she tried the same method, Lorevil couldn’t perceive it.
Lorevil gathered her bloodline energy, slicing the mist into words: “Lorevil.” As soon as she wrote those four characters, she was exhausted.
She was a Tier 3 vampire.
But such fine control of energy down to every stroke was more tiring than fighting several vampires of the same tier.
Drip… drip…
Tiny beads of sweat broke out on Lorevil’s forehead, rolling down her cheeks and dripping into the Blood Lake beneath her feet, quickly swallowed by the crimson water.
