Deep within the subterranean ruins, countless meters below the surface, a mysterious ancient monster awoke from its slumber, returning to a world both familiar and alien.
An invisible pressure swept through, dimming even the faint glow of the Glowing Mushrooms on the rock walls.
The black-clad figures froze, their bodies and blood seemingly iced over, staring in shock at the colossal creature before them.
“Slime Queen? Level 50?!”
Bai Yue Ling’s hair stood on end. If I had a Fox Tail, it’d be puffed up like crazy right now.
“Phew…”
The Slime Queen raised her head, gently wiping the blood from her body, her massive slime form writhing slowly, her deep eyes fixed on the enormous spear that had pierced her.
“Even a divine artifact this powerful couldn’t escape the ravages of time?”
Her voice carried a misty quality, each word tinged with a haze, as if she were still adjusting to this world.
The black-clad figures exchanged glances through the air, seemingly discussing a strategy.
Unsure of this newly awakened monster’s stance, they decided to try communicating first, out of caution.
If they could avoid pointless conflict or even ally with her, that’d be ideal.
One black-clad figure looked up at the Slime Queen, speaking calmly. “Honored Queen, we’re just lost wanderers who stumbled here, with no intent to offend you.”
The Slime Queen casually tossed the massive spear to the ground, then gazed down at her without a word.
There’s a chance—she doesn’t seem hostile… The black-clad figure quietly sighed in relief, continuing, “We don’t know which faction you belong to, but if possible, we’d like to express our sincere goodwill and form an alliance with you…”
SQUELCH!
The Slime Queen’s expression remained blank as her finger suddenly shot out like rubber, piercing the black-clad figure’s head without warning.
Feeling the chilling sensation at her forehead, the black-clad figure trembled, anger and fear mingling on her face as she collapsed powerlessly into a pool of blood.
The Slime Queen coldly retracted her finger, a massive tentacle extending from her lower body, wrapping around the corpse and dragging it back, as if a gaping maw swallowed it whole.
She licked her lips, unsatisfied. “Not enough… I need more life force…”
With that, she gazed down at everyone in the area, like a ravenous predator eyeing juicy prey.
Seeing their companion’s gruesome fate, the remaining black-clad figures paled, their steps faltering as they retreated.
“Why are you running?” the lead black-clad figure barked. “Have you forgotten the training you received in the church? Does running help against an enemy?”
The black-clad figures instantly stood tall, their voices unified and resolute. “No!”
“Then fight with everything you’ve got!” The leader’s body ERUPTED with radiant holy light, her voice low but brimming with power. “Only through battle do we carve the path to victory!”
“Yes!” The other black-clad figures’ bodies also burst with holy light, drawing their weapons and charging at the Slime Queen.
With no escape, they had no time to bother with Bai Yue Ling anymore—taking the crown wouldn’t matter if they couldn’t deliver it.
Meanwhile, Bai Yue Ling’s eyes widened. “Pure holy light… As expected, these black-clad figures are all followers of the goddesses!”
Silver Fang’s voice was grave. “Their aura’s completely different now. They’re clearly professionally trained warriors.”
Connected to the Third Princess, all followers of the goddesses… Bai Yue Ling felt the black-clad figures’ identities becoming clearer.
Facing the black-clad figures’ assault, the Slime Queen remained unfazed, her brows only slightly furrowing, as if she’d seen something repulsive.
“This… holy light? Such a disgusting power.”
She closed her eyes, her massive jelly-like body pulsing like a heartbeat, slimy, glistening tentacles slowly extending, writhing with an unsettling aura.
“Hmph, no matter how many ants there are, their lowly nature doesn’t change.” The Slime Queen’s voice was cold and merciless. “Feel honored in your final moments—being chosen as this queen’s sustenance is the greatest end for your pathetic lives.”
As her words fell, the tentacles suddenly spun around her like a giant fan, whipping through the air.
The black-clad figures’ bodies EXPLODED like firecrackers, turning into clouds of blood mist in the blink of an eye, their shattered remains swept up by the tentacles and dissolved into bones within the pale blue slime.
Feeling her life force surge, the Slime Queen let out a satisfied moan, her face glowing with contentment as her massive body writhed, digesting the bones completely.
In an instant, the once-lively scene fell silent, only wisps of blood mist lingering in the air, silently testifying to the earlier carnage.
“This is bad…”
Bai Yue Ling muttered to herself. Why do all my enemies keep getting stronger? Level 30 Aiya, level 40 Viki, and now a level 50 Slime Queen… I’m just a newbie in my teens!
Ying Ye’s forehead glistened with sweat, her voice heavy. “Little White, do we have any chance of winning?”
Bai Yue Ling gave a bitter smile, shaking her head. “Not a chance. Even if I had 100 lives to self-destruct, we couldn’t win.”
Against a level 30 Aiya, she could at least wear her down with self-destruct tactics, but the gap between level 50 and level 30 was a chasm—like a lizard on the ground facing a dragon in the sky, not even in the same league.
Princess, her playful demeanor gone, asked with a pale face, “Okay, different question—do we have any chance of surviving?”
Though Otherworld Travelers didn’t fear death, watching lives vanish before their eyes instilled an instinctive fear and an overwhelming will to survive.
Bai Yue Ling tapped the barrier behind her. “This ruin’s as big as a city. If we can get inside, we might find a way to escape.”
Princess said despairingly, “But we can’t open it.”
Meanwhile, the Slime Queen, having finished her digestion, locked her gaze onto Bai Yue Ling and the others.
“So, four little ants are hiding here.”
The Slime Queen slithered closer, her tentacles poised like the scythes of death, ready to reap their lives.
Bai Yue Ling took a deep breath, gripping her Charm Wound Staff tightly.
Ying Ye hugged Bai Yue Ling’s soft frame, dark mist slowly clouding her eyes.
Princess hid her pale, despairing face behind her Ornate Folding Fan.
Silver Fang stood in front of them, heavy breaths echoing from within her sturdy armor.
“Though you’re insignificant humans, your looks aren’t bad,” the Slime Queen said, looming over them, her gaze piercing through all facades, her voice icy. “Kneel before this queen, swear to abandon your past, and become my consorts.”
