Chapter 37: The Assassination Attempt

After listening to Naya’s plan, everyone fell silent.

Noah took out the Tarot deck from her pocket and showed the Strength Card to Naya.

“What about this? Will enhancing it affect your script?”

Naya stroked his cane and frowned.

“I don’t know. I’ve never seen the power of the Stars before, so I’m not sure if it can increase the script’s duration.”

After a discussion, they finally settled on this plan: first have Naya turn everyone into Ghost Forms, then sneak attack the New Truth members here.

The New Truth were originally old subordinates of the Research Institute, so they all have the same system.

By killing them without getting blood on the uniforms, they could use the stripped uniforms to disguise themselves as New Truth members.

This way, they could not only reduce the burden on the script but also move unhindered through the Incinerator Area.

As long as they didn’t reveal any flaws, they could even pass through this area without anyone noticing.

The method was good, but not foolproof.

Xin touched her tail and ears, then turned to look at Noah beside her.

“Well, what about us? Your madam is a stunning beauty, and I have these long cat ears. There’s no way we can disguise. They’re not blind—won’t they see through it at a glance?”

This was indeed a problem.

Naya thought for a moment, then looked at the two of them.

“Alright, if in the end the script really can’t hold up, you two put on your hoods and follow at the back of the line. If anyone becomes suspicious, just kill them directly, but make it a one-hit kill. Don’t give these soldiers a chance to call for reinforcements.”

It could only be this way.

Xin glanced at Shabu lying at the back of the line.

“What about her? You can’t have her crawling behind us, can you? Are you going to tell the New Truth Organization that she’s our pet?”

A huge incinerator was roaring in the center of the room, the noise mixed with scorching hot air surrounding them.

Xin stepped to the door, first glanced at the layout inside, then whispered to Suo’en.

“Kid, you’re Suo’en, right?”

“Do you know how to assassinate?”

Suo’en drew his Long Blade, eager to try.

Suo’en’s [Shagai] Squad excelled at exploration and stealth—assassination was the most basic skill.

Xin glanced at the number of New Truth members in the room, then waved behind her.

“Five people, come with me. Also, your weapons are too big, not suitable for assassination. Take these.”

Xin handed five slender daggers to these people and instructed again.

“Tread lightly, breathe steadily, and I shouldn’t need to explain the basics of assassination. The six of us will each target one person, acting on my command. Slit their throats as fast as possible, then quickly drag the bodies over here. Got it?”

Noah glanced at the six members who had changed into New Truth uniforms, then looked up at Naya.

Naya lifted the Ghost Form from these members and immediately felt the pressure ease a bit.

He first let out a breath, then replied to Noah.

“It’s okay, dear. I can still hold on. The Strength Card is our last trump card. We won’t use it unless absolutely necessary.”
