Inside a classroom at Nanjiang University.
A young man stared blankly out the window, his expression weary from the many things weighing on his mind.
His name was Gu Bai, an ordinary college student.
He was somewhat handsome, but his wallet was quite empty because of his relationship.
One could tell as much from his very simple and plain clothing.
After all, during this 3-year relationship, he had sacrificed almost everything for a certain someone.
Although he didn’t want to admit it…
Now that Gu Bai had regained his senses, he realized his past self was indeed a simp.
But now, he was awake.
Starting from that message last night…
He had completely woken up.
Gu Bai sat there, waiting for the other person to arrive.
*’Hasn’t Su Shuhao arrived yet?’*
Gu Bai checked the time; 10 minutes had already passed since their appointed time.
In the past, he might have waited for over 2 hours, but things were different now.
He was no longer that clown and simp.
Just as he was about to leave the classroom, a young woman walked in.
Looking at her, she and Gu Bai appeared to be from two different worlds.
She was dressed glamorously and youthfully, and she was none other than one of Jiangnan University’s campus belles—Su Shuhao.
“You’re finally here.”
Gu Bai looked at her indifferently and said:
“Were you serious about what you said last night?”
“Of course!”
When she spoke, her proud and overbearing voice was completely at odds with her pure appearance.
She was Gu Bai’s girlfriend, but…
She would likely be his ex-girlfriend soon.
Su Shuhao was an entire head shorter than Gu Bai, but her aura was aggressive.
“Let’s just be friends,” she said quite bossily.
“I don’t think we’re a good match.”
“Is that so?”
Gu Bai wasn’t surprised or startled at all when he heard those words.
After all, this bossy little princess frequently threatened to break up; anyone would eventually go numb.
Moreover, those were the exact words she had messaged him last night after shopping with her best friend.
Although he didn’t know the full situation, he wasn’t going to indulge her anymore, no matter what reason she used to threaten him this time.
His heart was tired.
“You’re still like this! You’ve always been like this!”
Su Shuhao snapped, feeling irritated that Gu Bai had no reaction at all.
“No wonder my friend said we weren’t right for each other. Look at your clothes, look at your vibe. We’re not even on the same level, okay!?”
Gu Bai actually laughed when he heard her.
Though his family’s financial situation was far from ordinary, he didn’t want to rely on their money.
As a typical college student, he naturally didn’t have much.
He had worked himself to death at part-time jobs every weekend, spending every cent he earned on Su Shuhao.
Gu Bai shifted his gaze to the light green dress Su Shuhao was wearing.
This outfit suited her perfectly.
One could even say that if her natural beauty was an 80, this dress boosted her over a 90.
He had spent 1 month picking it out all over Nanjiang City, scouring the internet every night after coming home.
Because he was never satisfied, he eventually spent a huge sum of money to have it custom-made as a birthday gift for her.
Gu Bai didn’t want to calculate how much money he had spent on that dress.
But despite all that time and effort, he hadn’t even received a “thank you.”
She accepted his gifts as if it were only natural…
It was truly ridiculous.
While Gu Bai was lost in his memories, Su Shuhao crossed her arms and spoke petulantly.
“Gu Bai, let’s break up. Like I said last night, we’re better off as friends.”
As Su Shuhao spoke, her eyes remained fixed on Gu Bai.
No one knew if she was joking or being serious.
But Gu Bai didn’t care about any of that, nor did he want to guess what she was thinking.
He turned his gaze toward the window.
The sky was very blue, and the river water was very green.
So…
The world outside was actually this big.
What had he been doing for the last 3 years?
Was staying in a dog cage really that fun?
“Okay.”
Gu Bai didn’t try to beg her to stay as he had in the past.
Instead, he nodded calmly and said:
“I respect your choice.”
“Wait, what?”
Su Shuhao, who had been acting tough, widened her eyes as her face turned pale.
She seemed unable to believe her ears.
After a moment of processing, she asked in disbelief:
“What did you say?”
“I said… I respect your choice.”
Completely disillusioned, Gu Bai brushed past Su Shuhao and walked toward the exit of the classroom.
“GU BAI, YOU WAIT RIGHT THERE!”
When Su Shuhao shouted, Gu Bai stopped at the door.
Seeing this, a flash of joy appeared on her face.
Just as she thought things would return to normal, Gu Bai spoke while his back was still turned to her.
“It’s just like your friend said. You are a campus belle known by everyone at Jiangnan University. The line of people who want to date you could stretch from the north gate to the south gate.”
“I’m just an ordinary person. Compared to you, I really am punching above my weight. Being friends is fine too. If we’re fated to meet again, I’ll treat you to coffee. Goodbye.”
After speaking freely, Gu Bai continued walking forward without looking back.
His steps were firm and steady, just like his heart which had finally gone cold.
“GU BAI, STOP!”
Su Shuhao never expected this result.
She said with a cold expression:
“You better think this through. With your reputation at Nanjiang University, it’s impossible for you to find another girlfriend!”
“I’m a campus belle. On the contrary, I can find someone much better than you.”
During his freshman year, Gu Bai had fought several thugs to save a girl, leaving them bloodied.
He himself had arrived at freshman registration covered in blood.
Because of that, his reputation at Nanjiang University had always been a bit problematic.
“And now that you’ve been dumped by a campus belle, given your already bad reputation, what will people think of you? What will your friends think then?”
Now that he had let go, Gu Bai was remarkably calm.
Looking back, he couldn’t understand how he had tolerated Su Shuhao’s terrible personality.
She would constantly use anything she could to threaten him, especially these frequent breakup threats.
“Didn’t you say we were better off as friends?”
Gu Bai smiled with relief, then said coldly and bluntly:
“Then please, as a friend, help me explain the situation to them.”
After saying that, Gu Bai headed down the stairs.
He didn’t listen to a single word of Su Shuhao’s angry reprimands behind him.
When Gu Bai walked out of the teaching building and felt the warmth of the setting sun, it was the first time he felt how beautiful the air outside truly was.
His exhaustion and irritability were swept away, replaced by a sense of lightness throughout his entire body.
As for how Su Shuhao was feeling right now?
Gu Bai chuckled, shaking his head as he whispered to himself.
*’Maybe she’s already looking for her next Prince Charming? Whatever, what does it have to do with me anymore?’*
