“Argh!!!”
The searing Light flames danced relentlessly, mercilessly scorching the Leader of the Black-Clad Figures’ flesh and piercing deep into her soul.
The Leader let out a shrill scream, her body trembling as she collapsed to her knees.
“Why… Why is the spirit I summoned attacking me?!”
Her face pale as death, the Leader scrambled to her feet, trying to pull the guandao from Bai Yue Ling’s body to counterattack.
But suddenly, Bai Yue Ling gripped the blade with all her might, letting her hands bleed profusely without letting go.
“Laugh, why don’t you? Weren’t you laughing so loudly just now?” Bai Yue Ling’s eyes were icy cold. “You kept saying you loved torturing others. Now that it’s your turn to be tortured, why can’t you laugh anymore?”
Under the burning agony of the Light flames, the Leader felt her strength drain away in an instant. She couldn’t even overpower Bai Yue Ling’s grip, collapsing helplessly to the ground, her face etched with despair.
“Impossible… How could I, a bishop, die in a hellhole like this…”
Her body shaking, the Leader mustered her last bit of strength to crawl away, only for Frite to pin her right hand underfoot—just as she had done to Bai Yue Ling’s earlier.
Frite raised her sword coldly and mercilessly, stabbing into the Leader’s body again and again, listening quietly to her screams.
With each cry, Frite’s lips curved a little higher, until they formed a wicked crescent, radiating an evil allure.
Blood splashed onto the once-snow-white angelic spirit, flowing down like a bucket of fresh red paint, until her body was fully dyed crimson.
The pure white wings and halo were now pitch-black as ink, as if dredged from mud, completely stripped of their original sanctity and purity.
[Name: Frite (Spirit)]
[Race: Fallen Angel]
[Level: 65]
[Class: War Angel]
[Description: A legendary angel born in the Heavenly Kingdom, who fought endlessly against the Dark Faction during the God War, gradually eroded by the corrupting dark power. Her wings and halo slowly stained black, falling into the secret lore as a Fallen Angel.]
[Remarks: Angels are messengers of Light, embodiments of hope. So what, then, are Fallen Angels?]
Gazing at Frite’s blackened halo and wings, Bai Yue Ling’s breath hitched slightly.
Angel… Fallen Angel… Pollution… Dark Fall… She felt all the clues connecting in that instant. She desperately wanted to see the pollution source, to verify her suspicions.
The Leader’s screams wailed like ghosts and wolves, the dense Dark Fall power tearing mercilessly at her body, showing her what true cruelty and terror meant.
Finally, the Leader’s voice faded, a final regretful growl escaping her lips before she drew her last breath.
Frite coldly withdrew her bloodied straight sword, stepping over the Leader’s corpse as she slowly approached Bai Yue Ling.
Blood dripped a shocking red trail on the ground. Bai Yue Ling swallowed nervously, watching as Frite came right up to her.
What would she do? Would she continue the slaughter, killing her like the Leader?
To Bai Yue Ling’s surprise, Frite swiftly sheathed her sword, then gripped the guandao in Bai Yue Ling’s body with both hands, yanking it free.
She pressed Bai Yue Ling’s shoulders, caringly channeling Dark Holy Light to heal her.
Every action brimmed with care and warmth, a stark contrast to the earlier cold ruthlessness.
Bai Yue Ling, somewhat at a loss, murmured nervously, “Th-Thank you.”
Good thing Fallen Angels don’t fight Fallen Angels.
After restoring Bai Yue Ling’s health to 100%, Frite turned toward the canyon depths. After a few steps, she glanced back at Bai Yue Ling, as if beckoning her to follow.
“You’re leading the way for me?”
Frite gave no reaction to Bai Yue Ling’s puzzled question, simply standing still and watching her. Only after Bai Yue Ling caught up did she continue.
They hadn’t gone far when Bai Yue Ling hurriedly doubled back, grabbing the Leader’s guandao and stashing it in her inventory. She even stomped on the Leader’s corpse for good measure.
Though she hadn’t gotten a single drop of XP from the kill, after taking all those hits, claiming a trophy was only fair.
“Thanks for saving me. Are you a Fallen Angel too?”
“Do you know a big sister named Dark Lisa? You two should be colleagues, right?”
“Did you cause all this Dark Fall pollution here? That’s impressive.”
Along the way, Bai Yue Ling kept trying to chat with Frite, but got no response.
She’d thought Frite had self-awareness, since she’d proactively killed the Leader and healed her. Unfortunately, Frite was just a spirit after all.
The two walked deeper into the canyon, where the Dark Fall aura grew thicker. Soon, Frite stopped before a rock wall.
“Why stop?”
Bai Yue Ling looked puzzled, then noticed the “rock wall” before them wriggling eerily, as if breathing.
“No way…”
Bai Yue Ling’s eyes widened, staring at the mottled patterns… This wasn’t a rock wall at all—it was the body of that giant python!
In the dark depths wreathed in black mist, the massive python lay quietly on the ground, clearly in deep slumber.
Behind its body, streams of Dark Fall aura seeped endlessly from gaps between its scales and the rock wall, continuously nourishing and strengthening the python.
Bai Yue Ling understood now— no wonder the Leader’s commotion hadn’t woken the python; it had been blocking the pollution source’s entrance all along, absorbing Dark Fall aura to grow stronger.
At that moment, Frite slowly drew her straight sword. Without hesitation, a terrifying bloodlust emanated from the blade as she slashed down at the python with full force!
With a piercing hiss, the python’s massive serpentine body was cleaved in two, blood gushing like a waterfall.
Like an eel dusted with salt, it thrashed wildly, slamming its body against the rock walls in a frenzy to quell the agony.
“One swing… just one swing?!” Bai Yue Ling exclaimed in shock.
Behind the python’s body was a narrow cave opening, from which endless Dark Fall aura surged. This, clearly, was the pollution source.
Ignoring the rampaging python, the two entered the cave. It was filled with thick black mist, so dense they could barely see five fingers ahead. Bai Yue Ling followed cautiously behind Frite.
Suddenly, a thread of clear white light caught her eye, and the view opened up.
Glowing mushrooms rooted in the cave ceiling painted a serene “night sky,” while spotless white flowers bloomed quietly, forming a mysterious, harmonious scene with the swirling black mist.
A towering, nameless tombstone stood silently amid the flower sea, over a hundred swords, staffs, and bows scattered haphazardly before it. Wisps of black mist poured ceaselessly from the tombstone, yet rather than feeling eerie, it added a touch of poignant beauty.
“This… is the pollution source…”
Bai Yue Ling parted the dense black mist before her eyes, narrowing them. Suddenly, she spotted a familiar figure lying quietly before the tombstone.
“Trineph?!”
