After some time, Lilith, Su Ruo, and Qing Hanyin’s ability levels had all reached Level 3, while Bai Lili was at Level 2.
Bai Lili felt she had neither talent nor the drive to work as hard as these female leads, becoming a top-tier grinder in this world. What truly surprised Bai Lili, however, was Long Chen. She had heard about his peculiarities from her aunt, Bai Ting.
He didn’t seem to put in much effort, yet his ability level rose rapidly. Moreover, his ability seemed to appear out of thin air.
The dean had only accepted him because he was so strange and wanted to keep him under close surveillance. The specific reasons weren’t disclosed to Bai Ting.
Bai Lili didn’t know what to do about it either, so she decided to just go with the flow. Seeing that Lilith and the others were ready to head to the new hunting grounds, Bai Lili pushed her worries aside and trotted forward on her white-stockinged short legs.
“Let’s go!”
When Bai Lili’s group reached their destination, they saw not just one but several teams waiting there. The teacher would assign corresponding hunting zones based on a team’s overall strength. Of course, challenging a higher-difficulty hunting zone was also an option.
But generally, no one would want to do that. After all, people knew their own limits. If you rashly challenged a high-level hunting zone, forget about opportunities; not getting slapped back immediately would be a victory.
Bai Lili looked around and noticed Long Chen was also there, probably wanting to participate in this competition to gain fame. Bai Lili didn’t care about the championship; she just hoped this Long Chen wouldn’t cause any more trouble.
Unfortunately, things didn’t go as hoped. This Long Chen opened his mouth and declared he wanted to challenge a Level 6 hunting zone. Bai Lili and the others, along with the other students, all stared at this overconfident fool. Claiming a Level 6 zone right off the bat? Anyone who didn’t know better would think you were the chosen one, with the power to turn the world upside down.
For safety’s sake, Bai Lili’s group chose a Level 5 hunting zone. After all, the strength of these three female leads was approaching Level 4, and they all had the ability to fight above their weight class.
Lilith glanced sideways at this Long Chen. He looked decent enough, so why couldn’t he do anything good? Su Ruo used one of her nine large white tails to draw Bai Lili closer to her side, her tone icy.
“Don’t mind him. Let’s go to our own hunting zone.”
Qing Hanyin stared intently at Bai Lili and Lilith, seeming to have something on her mind.
When everyone had mostly gathered, the teacher glanced at the clueless Long Chen and spoke.
“I assume everyone has made their choice. We will now begin opening the portals to the hunting zones.”
As the portals for each level opened one by one, a sudden anomaly occurred when the Level 6 portal opened. The scenery inside the portal abruptly changed, completely different from the initial Level 6 hunting zone.
The teacher shielded the students behind him, calling out warily to the operator on the other side.
“There’s an issue with the Level 6 hunting zone portal! Close it quickly!”
However, no matter how the operator tried, the Level 6 hunting zone portal simply would not close. Once the Level 6 portal had completely transformed, Long Chen was the first to rush out from the teacher’s protection.
He tried to enter this portal leading to an unknown place, only to be directly repelled. Then, a pair of bloody, giant hands reached out from inside the portal, heading straight for Lilith, grabbing her and pulling her into the portal.
Bai Lili was still in a daze when she realized Lilith had already been snatched inside. Qing Hanyin, however, appeared extremely tense, as if facing some peerless powerhouse.
“Lili, don’t let go.”
Qing Hanyin stared fixedly at the portal’s interior. Not long after, the portal closed. Qing Hanyin let out a sigh of relief, but the moment she relaxed…
A crack tore open above Bai Lili’s head, directly grabbing her and pulling her in. Qing Hanyin clenched her fists tightly, wanting to vent something but having nowhere to direct it, so she could only give up.
“Is fate truly unchangeable?”
Qing Hanyin muttered to herself.
Meanwhile, Su Ruo contacted the dean’s office at the fastest speed possible. Beyond that, she was powerless. She clenched her hands so tightly that traces of blood seemed to seep from between her fingers.
Su Ruo realized she was still just a fledgling ability user. Protecting those around her with her current strength was nearly impossible. She secretly vowed to redouble her efforts.
As for Bai Lili and Lilith, who had been grabbed, they were dropped onto a patch of open ground. The surrounding trees were withered. There was no sun in the sky, nor a bright, clear moon. Instead, a crimson moon hung in the air, casting its bloody light over this land.
Crows occasionally flew past, causing a clamor. Bai Lili looked at Lilith beside her and waved a hand in front of her eyes.
“Hey! Are you okay?”
Lilith snapped out of her daze, seeing Bai Lili’s small hand waving back and forth in front of her. She smiled.
“Lili, I’m fine. In fact, I feel my body is filled with power right now.”
Seeing Lilith so spirited, Bai Lili thought it was probably due to the influence of this place. After all, the environment here looked exactly like the Blood Clan’s living environment described in other novels.
Lilith took Bai Lili’s hand, holding it tightly, staying alert to every movement around them.
“Lili, stay close to me. This place doesn’t seem normal.”
