Noah didn’t quite understand what it meant.
She frowned in confusion.
“True Envy? Is there a difference between true and false?”
[“Of course there is.”]
Noah stopped dwelling on the true versus false question.
She sighed, then asked with a troubled tone, “Then what do you suggest I do? I can’t just kill her. Should I knock her out and tie her up?”
[“You can try.”]
The mysterious voice replied.
Noah caught the teasing tone in its voice and immediately realized that method wouldn’t work.
But she didn’t understand why, so she asked, “That won’t work? If I render her immobile and have someone watch her, won’t that stop her from swapping bodies?”
[“Child, sin is formless.”]
The mysterious voice began to explain.
[“Envy is one of the Sources of All Evil. It cannot be controlled, cannot be erased, and has no shape or shadow. As long as humans exist, evil will always exist. Let me put it this way—even if a god descended, they couldn’t erase the wicked thoughts in the human world, let alone a mere mortal like you.”]
Noah grimaced. She spread her hands helplessly. “If that’s the case, then we’re already at a dead end?”
[“Not necessarily.”]
The mysterious voice chuckled.
[“What you saw was merely a manifestation of the Filth Spirit’s divine power, not even one of its servants. As long as you call out her true identity, her disguise will immediately fail.”]
“True identity?” Noah pondered for a moment, then tested, “Do you mean True Envy?”
[“Exactly.”]
The mysterious voice replied.
[“What I’m about to tell you is the key to killing Envy. If you still want to break through this situation, remember it well.”]
Noah immediately focused. She nodded. “Please enlighten me.”
[“If we both had nothing, what would you have to be jealous of?”]
‘If we both had nothing… what would you have to be jealous of…?’ Noah repeated the phrase in her mind. She nodded with a vague understanding and said solemnly, “Thank you. I’ll remember.”
[“Good. I wish you success.”]
The mysterious voice sounded somewhat relieved.
[“Now, your time is up. You should return.”]
Noah nodded.
She abruptly opened her eyes. Suo’en and the two other servants were still in front of her.
She gently rubbed her throat and heard Suo’en say to her—
“Madam… Why are you with this person? Forgive my bluntness… she is very dangerous. You should be careful…”
Noah first gave a light cough to ease the discomfort in her throat, then sighed softly and ordered the servants, “I know. Go tie her up. As tight as possible.”
Upon hearing Noah’s command, Suo’en nodded. He immediately went to Ouruola’s side, tore off her mage robe, and pinned her to the ground.
The other servants ripped the robe into strips and bound Ouruola hand and foot.
Ouruola looked up in shock, frowning as she demanded,
“What the hell?! Have you lost your mind again? Why are you suddenly tying me up?!”
“Shut up.”
Noah sighed.
She had no interest in watching Ouruola’s acting anymore.
She crouched in front of Ouruola and frowned, speaking in as flat a tone as possible.
“I won’t waste words with you. I know everything you’ve been planning. From start to finish, you never saw me as an ally—I was just your prey. Your reason for getting close to me was my face, to wait for an opportunity to steal my body. Am I right?”
Noah laid all her cards on the table.
She knew she couldn’t kill Ouruola and had no better way to deal with her, so she simply stated her stance, using her as leverage to threaten the Sin Organization.
Ouruola’s eyes widened. She feigned surprise.
“What nonsense are you talking about? How could I possibly do that? I’m just an ordinary mage!”
Slap!
Noah struck Ouruola across the face.
She gritted her teeth and glared at her with a venomous gaze.
“Stop pretending! Bitch! For one of the Sources of All Evil, your acting is terrible. Or should I call you… True Envy?”
After a moment of shock, Ouruola lowered her head and laughed.
She kept laughing until her whole body trembled.
This crazed reaction puzzled Noah.
She stood up and ordered the servants behind her, “Lift her up. We’re going to confront the Sin Organization.”
“Ah, no need…”
Before the servants could act, Ouruola suddenly raised her head. She twisted her mouth into a expression no normal person could make. “Don’t bother looking for them… they’re coming right now…”
Noah didn’t understand what Ouruola meant. She frowned and was about to go over and gag her, when she heard the sound of synchronized footsteps from deep in the corridor.
She turned around and was stunned by what she saw—
All the members of the Sin Organization were marching in unison, heads lowered like zombies, slowly approaching.
The leader, Tan Lan, glanced at Noah and then appeared before her as if teleporting.
Before Noah could react, Tan Lan kicked her. Noah couldn’t dodge in time—the blow sent her flying into a shipping container behind her.
The servants were startled.
They didn’t even have time to worry about the hostage Ouruola.
They quickly pulled Noah out of the wreckage of the container.
Noah spat out a mouthful of blood and stared in shock at the familiar members of the Sin Organization.
They had changed.
Not their appearances—their states were different. Originally, each member of the Sin Organization had their own distinct personalities: Prided’s arrogance, Daiduo’s daze, Fen Nu’s fury, Se Yu’s indulgence. Noah had seen all of this clearly.
But now, these people moved like walking corpses, stiffly performing the simplest actions. Noah watched as Tan Lan untied the ropes on Ouruola, powerless to stop it.
She gritted her teeth and looked up at Ouruola.
“Are you wondering why these people turned out like this?”
Ouruola seemed to read Noah’s confusion and sneered.
“There is no Sin Organization here. Everyone you see is my puppet!”
Every time Envy possessed someone, that person’s corpse became her puppet, endlessly following her.
Envy could control them in her own way, making them appear as they did when alive.
The stronger the possessed person, the stronger the puppet.
Noah looked at the countless puppets around Ouruola and felt cold sweat trickle down her forehead.
This deranged woman had possessed who knows how many people. The current form of Ouruola was definitely not Envy’s original appearance!
‘Damn it… You didn’t tell me this would happen when I exposed her disguise…’ Noah silently blamed the mysterious voice for not revealing everything, but it was too late now.
Only then did Noah realize that everything she had done was just a performance for Ouruola.
The plans she had made were nothing more than a lion jumping through a hoop in Ouruola’s eyes.
Noah thought she had deceived Tan Lan and toyed with the Sin Organization, but in reality, she had only shown Ouruola one clown act after another—because the Sin Organization never existed.
So-called members were merely Envy’s puppets.
From beginning to end, Noah had only been fighting one person—only Envy!
Ouruola’s body began to twist and deform.
She laughed maniacally while kneading her own face.
All the Sin Organization members started melting and reshaping into faceless wooden dolls.
Ouruola tore at her own face, now unrecognizable from its original form.
She looked up and fixed a burning gaze on Noah.
“Join us, Noah!!!”
A voice echoed from an unknown place. Noah looked up in surprise, hearing a low growl from the void above her head.
[“What you have, I must also have!”]
