I’m doomed!
Bai Li lay on the bed, heart pounding while waiting for Ziya to act.
‘What’s taking so long? Ziya, Bai Ning, I’m counting on you! If that girl Long Jiu really brainwashes me into a Dragon Princess, then…’
*Boom—!*
A deafening explosion of Mana suddenly erupted outside the door.
Ziya flapped her small wings and dashed inside at a speed like a machine gun.
“Father Lord, sorry for the wait! Bai Ning is stalling Long Jiu, let’s get out of here!”
“Okay!”
Bai Li sprang off the bed as if her legs were made of springs.
Ziya scooped her up and turned to run outside.
On the other side of the clash, Long Jiu raised her hand, using her hardened Dragon Scales to block a scythe strike.
With a flash of her body, she narrowly avoided the fierce follow-up attack.
“This scythe… I should have known.”
Long Jiu stared at the familiar weapon and the skilled, ruthless combat techniques of her opponent.
Realization dawned on her instantly.
“Vampire Queen Lilith, we have been friends for nearly 100 years. Are you really going to point your weapon at me just to snatch a man—no, to snatch a daughter?”
“Don’t call me Lilith.”
Bai Ning swung the scythe, its cold, gleaming blade pointing directly at Long Jiu. Her tone was resolute.
“My name is Bai Ning now. It is the name Father Lord gave me.”
A mocking smile curled on her lips.
“I didn’t expect you to be so calculating, hiding by Father Lord’s side pretending to be a little girl. Don’t you find it embarrassing, a Queen lurking around Humanity as a child just to get free food and drinks?”
“The feeling is mutual,” Bai Ning teased with a wink.
Long Jiu narrowed her eyes.
“Then, for the sake of our century of friendship, why don’t you just let me have Bai Li? It’s not that big a deal.”
“Hmph! In your dreams! Don’t blame me for being ruthless then!”
Long Jiu roared, and her Dragon Qi surged.
Her body expanded several times over, transforming into a magnificent Red Dragon covered in crimson scales.
An overawing Dragon pressure blanketed the area.
Coincidentally, Ziya was carrying Bai Li through the winding, nine-turn-eighteen-bend corridor.
After fighting through the Dragon Race soldiers blocking their path, they finally reached the main entrance just in time to witness this earth-shaking scene.
They locked eyes directly with Long Jiu in her Red Dragon form.
Bai Li shivered and quickly looked away, her mind racing with shock.
‘That girl Long Jiu… is actually the Demon Dragon King! My god…’
Bai Li averted her gaze, her heart filled with turmoil.
The clingy, spoiled little dragon baby from her childhood was actually the Demon Dragon King in disguise…
“Put her down!”
The Red Dragon let out a deafening roar, her Dragon Pupils burning with fury.
Just as she was about to rush toward Bai Li regardless of the cost, Bai Ning’s scythe slammed heavily against the dragon’s head.
Despite the protection of her thick Dragon Scales, Long Jiu let out a muffled groan of pain, and her momentum halted.
“Hey, hey, hey! Don’t act like I’m invisible!”
Bai Ning stood with her hands on her hips and shouted urgently toward Ziya.
“Who told you to run through the main entrance? Take Bai Li and go, I’ll stall her!”
“We’re running! We’re running! Bai Ning, take care of yourself!”
Ziya carried Bai Li and flew forward with every ounce of her strength.
The roars of the dragon and the clashing of weapons behind them made their eardrums ring.
The silhouette of the Dragon Palace grew smaller and smaller.
It wasn’t until they dove into a lush forest of magical plants that they dared to land.
The two of them collapsed onto the grass, panting heavily.
Bai Li propped herself up, her heart still thumping.
“My god… If Bai Ning hadn’t blocked that hit, Long Jiu would have caught us. That scared the life out of me!”
Ziya shook her aching wings and stuck out her tongue with a grin.
“Hehe, don’t worry, Father Lord. I am from the Dream Demon Tribe’s Imperial Family; running away is my specialty! Long Jiu won’t be able to catch up for a while.”
As soon as she finished speaking, the nearby bushes rustled.
Bai Li instinctively hid behind Ziya.
“Who is it?! Is it one of Long Jiu’s pursuers?”
A fluffy magic rabbit hopped out, holding a carrot in its mouth as it stared blankly at them.
Bai Li breathed a sigh of relief and patted her chest.
“You startled me. This place has me jumping at shadows…”
Ziya nearly burst out laughing.
“Father Lord, you’re so cowardly now. You’re like a completely different person from the majestic figure who used to take care of us.”
Bai Li’s face turned red as she argued back.
“It’s all because of this stupid body! Besides… that’s a real Dragon! Who wouldn’t be afraid?”
She looked down at the horns and tail on her body with a miserable expression.
“Great. We escaped, but where are we supposed to go? We can’t stay hidden in the forest forever, can we?”
Ziya’s eyes sparkled as she pulled a shimmering Mana crystal from her pocket.
“Don’t worry! I came prepared. This is an Obscuring Mana Crystal from the Dream Demon Tribe. Wearing it will mask our presence so Long Jiu can’t find us! Let’s find a cave to settle in first. We can make a plan once Bai Ning shakes her off and joins us.”
The two of them wandered through the forest until they finally found a dry, sheltered cave.
As soon as they entered, Bai Li noticed a pile of dry firewood and an old flint stone near the entrance.
She couldn’t help but marvel at their luck.
“Wow, it looks like someone lived here. Talk about a godsend!”
Ziya started a fire.
The orange glow made the cave feel warm and cozy.
She leaned in close to Bai Li and poked at the Dragon Scales on her arm with a sly smile.
“Father Lord, you’re actually quite cute now that you look like a member of the Demon Race.”
Bai Li slapped her hand away and snapped.
“Cute, my foot! This is a disaster…”
A gust of wind blew outside the cave, carrying a slight chill.
The campfire crackled, casting their swaying shadows against the wall.
Despite the desperation of their escape, a strangely humorous atmosphere filled the air.
