“Alright, it’s settled then. I’ll go with you to kill Marco.”
“After that, find your guild leader and have her tell me how to make a vampire pregnant.”
Vivian thought for a moment, then agreed. She continued.
“But I have no idea where Marco is right now.”
“I want to help you, but I don’t know where to start.”
“Hmph hmph~”
Feilin suddenly raised her chin haughtily, letting out two arrogant snorts from her nose. The entire fox became smug.
“Actually… I don’t know either!”
She proclaimed loudly with confidence.
“But… our leader definitely knows!”
At that moment, Feilin’s nose nearly pointed to the sky.
Whenever she mentioned the leader, her eyes sparkled with stars, as if she were the leader’s biggest fan.
Vivian retorted, “Is your leader some omniscient and omnipotent god? We can ask her anything.”
“You’re actually right about one thing.”
“Ah, she’s really omniscient?”
“No.”
“She’s a god?!” Vivian leaned back in shock.
“To be precise, a demi-god,” Feilin said.
“Whoa, that’s something.”
Vivian couldn’t help but draw in a sharp breath.
Having been in this world for so long, this was her first time encountering a living god.
Here, almost everyone had their own patron god—whether commoners on the street or kings in their palaces.
Even thieves in the shadows and rats in the sewers, as long as they were intelligent beings, would choose a god to believe in.
And the gods more or less bestowed their power, allowing followers to become extraordinary beings.
They influenced the workings of everything in the world. Every life was nurtured under the tales and power of the gods.
Here, truly meeting a god, even a demi-god, was an immense honor.
And Vivian now had such an opportunity.
“Hmm… Can I punch her?”
Vivian suddenly felt an itch in her fist and couldn’t help saying it.
“Ah! What did you say?!”
Feilin twitched her large ears, as if she had heard something unbelievable.
Did Vivian just say she wanted to punch the leader?
‘Really?’
“Ahaha, I said… I want to buy her an ice cream!”
Vivian quickly realized her slip and covered it with a laugh.
“I see, I must have misheard. I thought you wanted to hit her…”
Feilin sighed in relief, glad she had heard wrong.
“You definitely heard wrong. Do I look like a bloodthirsty vampire?” Vivian deflected, then continued. “Tell me specifically, what do I need to do?”
“Tomorrow night, go to 404 Black Rat Street,” Feilin said.
“In the alley behind that house, there’s a sewer entrance.”
“Once inside, follow the water flow downstream, and you’ll find the new base of our Scavenger Guild.”
“We’ll meet there. I’ll summon the leader and get Marco’s location and the answer you want.”
“Then…”
Feilin’s tone paused, and she made a throat-slitting gesture.
“Then go kill that bastard Marco.”
“Very simple and brutal. I like it.”
Vivian nodded in satisfaction, agreeing to the plan, then asked a question.
“But how can you be sure your leader will help us? What if she refuses?”
In her lack of ability, Vivian simply couldn’t imagine a situation where a demi-god would obey her subordinate.
‘Really?’
“I can guarantee you that this situation will never happen.” Feilin patted her chest and said, “Because the leader owes me a huge sum of money.”
“As long as I use that money as leverage and press for payment, she will definitely help us.”
“Wow, gods also go into debt? That’s so mundane.”
Vivian suddenly had a bad feeling. This leader sounded unreliable just from hearing about her!
Feilin explained, “Our leader is a bit special. She particularly likes to engage in showy activities.”
“She calls it… theatrical performances? Yes, that’s it.”
“And then, as expected, her performance had an accident. She ended up in a mountain of debt and even once ended up working in a brothel.”
“In the end, I spent money to buy her out, otherwise she was about to start entertaining clients.”
After hearing this, Vivian couldn’t help the muscles in her face twisting.
She immediately regretted agreeing to Feilin’s plan.
‘Oh my god, is it too late to get off this pirate ship now?’
“It’s a miracle your guild has survived this long with a leader like that.”
“Wait, Vivian, don’t worry too much.”
Seeing Vivian’s face alternating between red and green, Feilin knew she might have misunderstood, so she waved to interrupt Vivian’s thoughts.
“She taught me the art of thievery. She cares for every guild member, teaching them how to pick locks and pick pockets.”
“She is truly a very reliable god!” Feilin defended the leader loudly, then lowered her voice and added, “As long as it’s not about her script…”
At this point, Vivian had nothing more to say.
“Alright, alright. We’ll talk about the rest tomorrow night.”
She waved to stop Feilin, who was about to continue defending.
Then she turned and jumped onto the back of the giant-horned ox, continuing toward Ma’en City.
They climbed over a small hill, and the low city walls came into view.
“Look! Something’s happening at the city gate!”
Sitting on the ox’s back, Vivian noticed an anomaly in the distance and immediately turned to shout to her companions.
A large crowd of people was gathered in front of the gate for some unknown reason.
Ma’en City had just escaped the shadow of the Blood Mage and hadn’t even had time to catch its breath.
Now another incident was unfolding—barely one wave settled yet another rose.
“Let’s go check it out.”
Vivian patted the ox’s back to signal it to pick up speed.
At the city gate.
As they approached, the first thing they saw was a tall flag.
The flag was pure white with a scratch mark printed on it—three dark red slashes slanting downward.
“That’s the Northern Claw Alliance,” Feilin recognized the faction and explained to Vivian.
Beneath the flag was a row of giant lizards, their blue-green scales covering their bodies like armor. They occasionally flicked their scarlet tongues.
On the lizards’ backs rode tall, bare-chested orc warriors. Each had a white wolf head tattooed on their chest, with the wolf’s mouth wide open facing forward.
In the center of the group was an ice giant as tall as the city wall, holding a club that looked thicker than Vivian’s waist.
“Are these guys here to attack the city? Looks like Ma’en City is in for a tough time,” Derek remarked, unable to help sighing.
“We’ll find out by asking, won’t we?”
Vivian glanced at him, then dismounted from the ox and walked behind one of the giant lizards.
She reached out and poked the lizard’s smooth scales.
The lizard flicked its tail, feeling an itch behind it, and turned around.
Then Vivian met the eyes of the orc warrior on its back.
“Hello, are you here to conquer Ma’en City?” Vivian asked politely.
The orc gestured for the lizard to sit down, leaned close to Vivian, and said with a confused expression, “Gulu Kashi? Fute Mami?”
‘Great, language barrier. Can’t understand…’
At that moment, Vivian deeply realized the importance of learning a foreign language.
