“Welcome, welcome!”
The fat man’s black, round plate of a face split into a fawning grin, gesturing for Shu Yue and Claire to enter.
He looked less like a deputy warden and more like a restaurant owner.
Claire stepped aside to make room for Shu Yue.
Shu Yue paused for a moment, then walked forward, meeting the fat warden’s gaze with a cold expression.
“Warden Oulum, hello.”
“Haha, the esteemed Lord White honors us with your presence. I’m truly flattered. Just call me Oulum. I’ve long admired your father, Lord Wood White, and to think I’d get to see you in person today.”
Oulum grinned like a shrewd merchant, fitting for a warden.
But Shu Yue couldn’t be bothered to care what kind of man he was.
She was only here to run some experiments.
After a brief exchange, Shu Yue cut straight to the point.
“I’d like to see the death row inmates. Would Warden Oulum be able to help?”
“Of course, of course.”
Oulum nodded, but then shifted his tone.
“Though you might not know this, Needle Leaf Academy is holding their qualifying competition again soon. Plenty of connected folks have been coming by, just to get a taste of that kind of bloodshed.”
“I’m aware.”
Shu Yue frowned slightly, unsure where he was going with this.
Oulum didn’t answer.
He just looked at Shu Yue, the smile on his round face growing thicker.
Shu Yue turned to Claire.
Claire stayed silent.
She let out a mental snort, then looked back at Oulum and casually draped herself in the authority of another.
“She said I could do as I please.”
Oulum’s expression faltered, as if he hadn’t quite understood what Shu Yue meant.
Shu Yue didn’t care whether he understood.
She simply walked straight in, tossing one more order over her shoulder.
“Prepare a Fire Element spell user for me. Second Order Initial.”
She was ordering off the menu.
Hmph, who can’t speak in riddles?
Oulum glanced at the bold, swaggering retreat of Shu Yue’s back, then turned to look at the maid Claire.
Claire raised her eyes, her gaze landing on Oulum.
Oulum’s smile froze.
“I’ll arrange it right away.”
With that, he hurried after Shu Yue while dispatching a subordinate to bring her a “menu.”
At this point, Oulum had to realize the “she” Shu Yue mentioned wasn’t Luolan, but Mrs. Mei Er—the wife of Grand Duke Isolde.
During Grand Duke Isolde’s slumber, Frost City had always been ruled by this Duchess.
Her word was law in the Northern Frontier, not something a small fry like Oulum could defy.
So he didn’t dare try to block Shu Yue at the gate.
Shu Yue looked at the “menu” delivered to her hands.
The names on it were all Tier 1 and Tier 2 Supernatural Beings.
To others, they might be formidable opponents, but with Shu Yue’s current strength, an ordinary Tier 2 wasn’t even worth a single exchange.
Her Bloodline Manifestation could even hold its own against those just entering Tier 3.
Scanning from the Tier 1 list to the Tier 2 list, Shu Yue glanced over the names one by one.
She was curious what these people had done to end up here, but she didn’t bother asking Oulum.
Ask a death row inmate what crime earned them the death sentence—what, was she supposed to pity them?
Shu Yue didn’t have that much kindness to spare.
Oulum had prepared a spacious room for her, fully equipped.
Racks lined the walls, meant for mounting torture instruments, stained with dark red mottling—years of soaked-in blood had turned the whole racks black.
This was an interrogation room.
“Come, Young Master Liya, please have a seat. Don’t tire yourself out.”
Oulum snatched a chair from one of his attendants, placed it behind Shu Yue, and smiled obsequiously.
Shu Yue glanced at the red leather chair and felt a pang of unease.
Was this thing made out of some strange material?
She was a transcendent being, not a freak.
As if sensing the doubt in Shu Yue’s eyes, Oulum quickly explained:
“Young Master Liya, rest assured, this chair is completely clean. Not a single drop of those commoners’ blood has touched it!”
“Oh, go get ready.”
Shu Yue still didn’t sit.
She simply told Oulum to scram, then turned her gaze to Claire.
The red-haired maid stood quietly off to the side.
Shu Yue watched her for a moment, then said:
“Once the prisoner arrives, you leave too. I don’t want anyone seeing anything.”
“That would put you in danger.”
Claire refused without hesitation.
Leaving Shu Yue alone in a cell with death row inmates was too risky.
Those men knew exactly what awaited them.
They’d lost their fear of death and wouldn’t hesitate to harm the young lords and ladies who came here.
Shu Yue’s expression remained calm, her tone brooking no argument:
“Claire, after you leave, don’t let anyone come in to disturb me without my permission. Even if there’s any commotion, don’t barge in. Understood?”
Claire met Shu Yue’s eyes.
A brief meeting of gazes, then the maid lowered her head again.
“Understood.”
Shu Yue definitely couldn’t keep Claire in the room.
If she saw her using the Star Tempering Art, that would be a problem.
Oulum soon brought the prisoner.
He arrived holding a chain—black metal links connecting to a special silver-blue metal restraint set.
In addition to the standard leg and wrist shackles, there was a collar around the prisoner’s neck.
Shu Yue looked at the restraints.
She felt a peculiar power radiating from them, exerting a suppressive effect that weakened the prisoner’s aura until he was barely different from an ordinary person.
The prisoner led in on the chain was a man with a scruffy beard and matted, filthy hair.
He wasn’t very tall—about 5 feet 7 inches—with a lean, gaunt frame.
His face looked haggard, but a hint of former elegance still lingered.
He might have been a man of high society once.
His brown eyes, tinged with a faint hint of red, were hazy.
After stepping into the interrogation room, he glanced around, his gaze landing on Shu Yue, and stopped in his tracks.
He scrutinized Shu Yue, then let out a sneer of contempt, as if he was used to seeing young masters like this coming to the prison for thrills or so-called training.
In his eyes, someone like this would hesitate to kill a chicken, let alone a person—and would probably throw up at the sight of blood.
“Oh, Oulum, which noble young master is this now? Don’t go crying for mommy after getting scared.”
The hoarse, low voice was directed at Oulum, but the words were aimed squarely at Shu Yue.
Shu Yue’s face showed no reaction.
Though she wanted to say she had no mother and no home, she remembered that this identity was Liya… did Liya have a mother?
Liya, the bastard son brought back by Grand Duke Isolde, only had a stepmother by blood.
That lady didn’t seem to want to acknowledge Liya at all…
Shu Yue gave the man a once-over.
A gray-brown prison uniform, covered in scars.
Despite the gaunt frame, the arms exposed by his sleeves looked surprisingly powerful.
This man was not weak.
She made a simple assessment but didn’t take him too seriously.
A duel?
A fight to the death?
A competition?
No, Shu Yue simply wanted to use his life to validate her theory.
Oulum shot the prisoner a furious glare, then turned to Shu Yue:
“Apologies. I should have gagged this one’s mouth too.”
“Leave him here. You go.”
Shu Yue ignored his remark and waved him off.
The prisoner watched Oulum being ordered around like that and burst into loud laughter.
Oulum ignored him this time, nodded to Shu Yue in acknowledgment, then set down the chain and keys and exited the interrogation room.
Once he was gone, Shu Yue turned her gaze to Claire.
Claire hesitated for a moment, but eventually walked out and closed the door behind her.
Now only Shu Yue and the death row inmate remained in the interrogation room.
Shu Yue picked up the keys, looking at the inmate with cold eyes.
The inmate sized up the delicate features of the Mirror Flower Water Moon Transformation.
Seeing that Shu Yue hadn’t sat down but was standing there, he walked over on his own, sat down, and smiled at Shu Yue.
He glanced down at Shu Yue’s hands—fair and delicate, almost like a woman’s.
“Tsk, just like a woman.”
He clicked his tongue, a playful look on his face, and said in a taunting tone:
“Hey, kid, ever killed anyone?”
“I have. Killed plenty. They all deserved it, hahaha!”
“Oh.”
Shu Yue responded coldly, just so he wouldn’t feel too awkward.
See, how kind of her?
The inmate looked at Shu Yue’s cold face and shrugged it off.
He’d seen plenty of fake composure before.
But when faced with true life and death, human survival instincts would always surface.
It was a survival instinct passed down since ancient times.
Below Tier 3 True Spirit Realm, the body would feel fear before the mind.
Even Supernatural Beings couldn’t escape the body’s influence on the mind.
“Come on, hand me the keys. I’ll teach you how to kill.”
Shu Yue glanced down at the keys in her hand, tossed them once, then threw them to the inmate.
The inmate hadn’t expected her to actually hand them over.
He froze for a second, but quickly recovered and began unlocking the restraints.
Shu Yue watched in silence.
The moment the locks came off, she let out a soft chuckle.
“By the way, have you ever died?”
Those words made the inmate stop what he was doing.
Even the thought of taking Shu Yue out right then and there was momentarily set aside.
Shu Yue’s words piqued his interest.
He wanted to hear what this green young master had to say.
Shu Yue paid no mind to his coiled readiness.
A Second Order Out-of-Body Realm—Shu Yue could take him with pure physical strength alone.
In a small room like this, it was even easier, since he couldn’t create distance.
She continued where she’d left off:
“I have. Twice, actually.”
Once was in her past life. And the other time was…
Shu Yue raised a hand, pointing at her lower abdomen, her heart, her palm, and finally at her left temple.
“That one had three hands. Stabbed me four times total, landed all three of my vitals dead on. Fatal wounds every time. He used a very special weapon—turns out he had a Depth Creation. It had a contaminating effect on the Soul. Even a Tier 3 would probably have been killed by that Depth Creation.”
The inmate stood frozen. He didn’t believe anyone could survive taking three fatal hits.
The abdomen held a Core Circuit node.
The heart went without saying.
And a hit to the forehead would cause instant unconsciousness.
On top of all that, one of the wounds involved a Depth Creation that could corrupt the Soul!
A sudden realization struck him.
His bloodshot eyes locked onto Shu Yue as he demanded in a low voice:
“Who exactly are you?”
“Hehe, I don’t have a habit of explaining things. I’ll just be taking your life now~”
