“Cecilia!”
Ah, the light came on.
The wooden planks of the carriage were torn away, and my eyes met the three men’s.
I didn’t care if they called my name, as long as they saved me.
But… .
They immediately turned their heads away from me and only saved Cecilia on the other side.
I thought they’d return, but all I could hear was the faint voice calling out to Cecilia, fading away.
So now… I’ve been abandoned?
No, no matter what, leaving her behind… Damn it!
I won’t do it. I won’t be Cecilia’s friend.
I won’t be a supporting actor!
How great are they?
I made a promise as my vision faded.
***
My heart pounded.
“Liana! What do you mean?”
“Cecilia, you’ll probably never know.”
This much I could say for sure.
Whether it was an illusion or reality, the events leading up to the carriage capsizing, the days I tried to protect you, the countless tears I shed in between trying to fit in.
The reward I received was abandonment.
The afterimages of the three men who had left me behind to save you, Cecilia, were so vivid.
I took a deep breath.
Perhaps it was my imagination that felt the sharp, refreshing air piercing my lungs.
